It's easy to take one for someome you love. Anybody can do that. How about taking one for someone you don't even know? Jesus said there is no greater love than 'laying down your own life for your friends.' (John 15: 12-13 ) If we take what he says literally, shouldn't we be willing to die for ANYONE? Afterall, we are all brothers and sisters in Christ, aren't we? Think hard, and be honest with yourself before answering, please.

I do not take anything the bible says literally. I do not know if i will. You asked for honesty and this is what i am going to give. I do not know if i would. I do not even know if i would take one for a loved one. At that very moment i do not know what will happen. But i have learned to accept death. So if they have to die they have to and nothing i do will stop it.
If i am i guess that will be the day when i run infront the Gun. I really do not know what i will do at that point in time. I may think about my own life and why should i end it in that manner. I really do not know.
And that is the honest truth.

We Christians always say that each and every situation we may find outselves in is written about in the Bible. This situation is no different.

Peter swore to Jesus he'd be willing to go to prison and die with Him; yet, Jesus prophesied that Peter would instead deny Him three times before the sun came up. This did happen.

It's human nature to want to preserve our own lives; it's also human nature to want our children's lives to be preserved. While we're safe, such as at this moment, it's easy to make claims that we would take a bullet for someone else. In reality, not many of us would be willing to lay our own lives down for another. That's one reason why Jesus' sacrifice means so very much:

Romans 5: 7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Peace.

We are all brothers and sisters in Adam. You aren't a bro or sis in Christ unless you are "born again".He said lay down his life for friends.I don't consider too many people my real friend.
A police officer faces this dilemma on a daily basis. I have had the opportunity in my life to help put out a Mobile Home fire and help save the occupant, and pull a man from a burning car. Many years ago.But if that car had really flamed up,would I have gotten more burned to save the guy? I doubt it ,really.I would of tried everything else to save him but probably not to the death.
by the way ,I am not an officer,But I admire their courage.

I'm an atheist, not a sister in Christ, but I think I would take a bullet for a stranger. I don't think I could live with the guilt if I didn't try to protect another human who was in danger. This is called altruism.

Yeah...my only brother is the one that my mom had two years after me. He's a pain in the @$$, but I love him.

As far as taking a bullet for a stranger...probably not. I have to think of my young child at home. I can't afford to sacrifice myself because I don't want my daughter to be without a mother.

If it were a young child though, that would be a different story. I would probably take a bullet then.

John 15:13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

This scripture is talking about what Jesus did for us. No man can ever do what He did for us. I personally have jumped in front of a gun that was pointed at my friend's son. And I talked that gunman out of killing that man. But I was acting on adrenalin and not using common sense.

I could have left my kids motherless and my husband a widower. Today that guy that I kept from getting killed, is a horrible man to this day. He actually provoked that argument that cause that other man to pull out his gun. He is filled with evil and contempt for life in general, and thinks this world owes him everything in it.

That reflex if mine with the gunman was a result of seeing my own mother shove guns out of her face nearly on a daily basis when I was a child living in Chicago. I was programed to shove guns from in front of my face, due to seeing my own mother do it as I watched as a child. Today it is a relfex action and very irresponsible, and very difficult to not react that way, when a gun is pointed at a friend or family or myself. My brother suffers with the same reflex that I do to this very day. One day that relfex will get us killed. Only God can keep that from happening.

I know that it was through the grace of God alone that I was not killed when I stood between that gun and the guy, with a bullet in the chamber, which was ment for my friend's son.. I prasie the Lord for God not allowing that gun to go off.. Dead people make lousy heros.

It would depend on who the stranger was. I think I would be more willing to take a bullet for a child or for another mother than I would be to take one for a man..

I have children to think about and my children need me. They also have a good father, though, so in a split second decision, I might save another mother or a child because I know that if need be they would be ok.

If I was walking down the street and all of a sudden I noticed a man about to shoot a woman...Id run and try to warn her...even if that means I have to take a bullet for that person.

I would gladly take the bullet for my family and friends.

Our soldiers are an example of this. They believe in laying their life on the line to fight for our freedom. I honestly think I would try very hard to save someone if their life was in danger.
