i know your wrong Aza...: because my husband and many others become flying crew chiefs to make extra money, my husband just went on a trip for 5 days in the west part of the country, he made an extra 200 dollars on his pay check and he's supposed to to malaysia where he'll make way more money because its an international trip,

its not TDY, he's enlisted in maintenance and is going to school now for to be a flying crew chief, he's been trying to be one for a year, so many people want to do it because of the extra money, he'll be gone a lot, and his friends that are flying crew chiefs make a ton of extra money for when they fly, and he picks when he flies, he's been on TDY before and this isn't it

The base pay is the same as every other airman of the same rank. You don't get a pay raise for being a crew chief. You get a pay raise for advancing in rank.

Yes, I was a flying crew chief for 3 years at DM in Arizona on C-130's, the pay is only an extra 180 dollars a month, might have changed but thats all I was getting. But the job itself was AWESOME, I was single at the time so I could go anywhere, no notice, didn't care. LOVED IT!!!

My daughter flies medi-evac, and loves it. The only draw back is she spends a lot of time on "recall", and never knows where she is going next. But there is also virtually no place on Earth that she hasn't been.
There are some perks for being on a flight crew, but don't depend on them to pay the bills because there will be months here and there that they will not be there (no fly = no flight pay). Besides flight pay that trip to Iraq, Afghanistan or Bosnia will also get you out of a months taxes.
