If you make a few life style changes you should be able to lose some weight. You need to have a deficit of 3500 calories to lose a pound, so don't try to do it too fast. This is a system that has worked well for me and several friends have also been successful with it.

1. Eat three nutritious meals and three snacks everyday. Cut out junk food. You probably need about 1500 to 1800 calories a day. Many people make the mistake of not eating enough when they try to lose weight and then become discouraged.

2. Drink lots of water - at least 8 big glasses as day. Lots of water is essential. Stop drinking soda and other drinks with useless calories. Eat fresh fruit instead of fruit juices - the juices are very high in calories.

3. Begin a simple weight lifting program at home or at a gym. Ordinary household items (tins of soup, for example) can actually serve as weights for beginners. Buy yourself a good weight lifting book for women. Actually the "dummies" series of books has done a rather good one.

4. Walk, walk, walk. Buy yourself a pedometer and aim for 10,000 steps a day.

5. Record everything you eat and all your exercise to make sure you have a "calorie deficit". Two of the sites I've included will help you do that. Basically buring more calories than you take in leads to weight loss. You need a deficit of 3500 calories to lose one pound.

6. If you drive, do less of it and park at the back of the parking lot instead of close to the door. Always use stairs - never the elevator or escalator.

7. A mini stepper is an easy piece to equipment to have at home and gives great results. I bought mine at a second hand store for $4. even if you use it for a minute or two several times a day it can make a big difference.

I hope these thoughts help. You can do this. Good luck with it.

Proper diet and exercise.

A well balanced diet of three main meals and three healthy snacks which included fruits and vegetables during the day is your best option. Consume low fat and no saturated fat. Consume more fish (omega 3 oils) and no trans fat. Consume complex carbs (starches) in moderation. Avoid sugars and foods with high sodium contents. Keep protein intake to roughly 50% of your daily intake.

Cardio exercises which raise your heart rate level 60 to 80% of your peak rate is the best option to burn calories. Lifting weights which builds muscle mass will greatly assist with the assimilation of fat. Girls/women do not build muscles like men. Therefore, don't be intimidated to lift weights. Do not use the scale as your guide to lose weight. Use the tape measure and measure yourself in various areas of the body. Muscle mass will add weight, therefore, the scale will be misleading. Even if you do not lift weight, most forms of exercise will increase muscle mass.

Stick with this routine and you'll maintain the ability to keep your weight off throughout your life. Stay away from fad diets, pills, myths, theories. Most are gimmicks and quick money making schemes. The others are short term goals and result in regaining weight.

The most effective way to lose fat is aerobic exercise in the "moderate" fat-burning range, ideally first thing in the morning before you eat. When you wake your body is ready to burn fat and your levels of growth hormone are highest at that time. Later in the day it can take up to 30 minutes just to put your body into a fat-burning mode.

Another overlooked way to burn fat is by lifting weights. Skeletal muscle has very high caloric needs... almost twice that of adipose (fat) tissue. Put on a little muscle and you will burn calories all day even at rest. Be aware that skeletal muscle weighs more, so with this approach you may see your weight increasing while your body fat is melting away. Not realizing this often stresses folks who think they should be losing weight as a measure of fitness. Forget the scale, look in the mirror and you will be happy.

You might think about trying this book called "The Movie Star Diet" by Steve Simmons. It helped me lose thirty pounds in 2 1/2 months when I didn't think anything would work. My goal to begin with was only 20 lbs! It has a really easy plan to follow and an excellent workout as well.
