I don't think the age difference matters. Maybe your friend caught him off guard or maybe he is just a jerk and thought it was funny. There are a million reasons for his reactions. Just go up to him and talk to him. If you are too shy or scared then you can leave the ball in his court but I would want to take control of my life if I were you and not let someone else have all the say. The worse thing that could happen is he tells you that he doesn't like you back and then you know and can find someone that does. You deserve someone that wants to be with you too!!!
Good luck!!!

Being one year older than you is not a big difference. Besides your maturity level is what counts. I would confront him about it. If you do that he will see that you are serious about it and he will become serious too. He's probably wondering why you got your friend to tell him that. You should of did it. On the other hand your friend might of asked him in a joking way. So like I said I would confront him about it.

One year is not the problem. Now that he knows that you like him just walk up to him and talk to him, or just say hi everyday he may start to think about it more seriously. And do yourself a favor don't get your friend to do it, he may take you seriously if you handle it and not your friend.

The best thing is to get some balls and tell him yourself. Whenever someone hears something like that through another person there will always be some doubt. so just show interest yourself.

The age difference probably isn't a problem you just need to sit him down and have a serious conversation with him. He just needs to know that you're serious and that you don't need your friends to talk to a guy you like.

You dont. How old are you? And if your worried about a one year difference then you are too young to take it seriously.

He probably laughed because you were bold enough to tell him outright.
You told him how you felt. The next move is in his court.

Why not tell him direct to the face that you are madly in love with him. There is no harm in trying. Best of luck.

The ball is in his court now. Wait for him to come to you if he's interested. If he doesn't then move on to find someone else. You can't make someone like you.
