Hi everyone
I am growing out my hair and despite my fast regrowth it is still a long and bothersome process. I am a natural medium-dark blonde. The non-new hair is frazzled with abuse and bleach and is currently lightest ash blonde.

I was considering getting a semi-permanent dye in dark blonde to match the old hair to the new, to at least make it look a bit tidier. I'm not letting permanent dye touch my damaged hair so at least if I don't like it a semi-permanent will wash out after twenty odd washes. I'm not overly bothered about waiting for my roots to grow out even though my roots are huge now, but It'd be nice if my roots matched the rest of my hair :)

all permanent/semi - perm. & demi - perm use some peroxide to process them.
it's a matter of what volume, not how much.
try this ... do a shampoo cap color ( not as damaging, and not as cumbersome).
find a color very close to your natural ( a shade lighter) mix as per the instructions and then mix it 1:1 with a MILD shampoo, cover the lightened hair first ...leave for 10 minutes then apply to natural hair and leave for an additional 10 minutes. then wet, lather, thoroughly rinse and dont shampoo for 48 hours.

Poor thing.
First the color at your tips(end of hair) is not the true color at all, its seriously bleached out and you dont' want to match that!

Okay, once you go darker it will help with the dryness.

You need to get a shade closer to you natural base tone.
the light color all over is destroying your hair.

You only recolor the roots only for 20-25 and blend all the color over all hair for 10 or so, follow the instructions. You may need a friend to help, since you need to get some help "seeing" all that needs to be done.

Follow this advice, if you put a darker color all over at once, your tips will be a much darker stringy color (the bleached dry hair will absorb more color, since it has no pigment of its own)

I would recommend, going having it done. Its wintertime, so go darker and richer color.

I have med-dark ash blonde and I have been a redhead for twenty years now, no one besides my hairdresser and husband know that. My own mother forgot.

Over the counter hair color has lots of peroxide in them, to lighten even the darkest hair. So that may not be the right products for you. If you are confdent enough, you can blend you own colors from Sally's and get the correct % of peroxide for your natural hair color, to make the color last better. IT takes practice and cost about the same, it is just a longer process all the way around. Yet I make a custom red, you can't find it, because I blend it myself, and everyone thinks it real. So it has its perks!

Best wishes.
Please put "leave in conditioner" on your hair Tips every day., it needs to be at least an inch or more away from you scalp.

Hi ya the best solution will be to put a semi permanent on your hair the only trouble is it will act more like a permanent hair colour. I no this sounds double dutch but where the old hair has been stripped of all its natural pigment it will act like a sponge, and grab on to the colour. Be sure not to put anything too dark as it will be better to go one to two shades lighter as it will come out darker on the porous areas. If you are doing it your self be sure it is a semi permanent, if you have to mix two bottles together it contains peroxide so its not what it says it is!!!! To be safe i would strongly recommend going to a salon.

I know boots do wash in wash out (lasts six washes I think) they're in little packets. But if your hairs in bad condition even these might "take hold" as the bleached parts will be very porus. I would go to a professional salon where you can have a consultation and decide the best course of action.

becuse your hair is damage you need to buy some hair mayonnaise or damge control shampoo or conditioner because the more chemicals you put in your hair the more damaged it will become.
