Is the Canon Powershot A540 significanlty better then the Canon Powershot A530? If so, why? Is it really worth paying the extra bucks for? Is the picture quality significantly better?

From a review of the A540:
"The A540 is the (6-megapixel) big brother to the 5-megapixel A530, which is almost identical other than the lesser resolution, smaller 1.8-inch LCD screen, fixed frame rate movie mode, and the exclusion of several exposure modes (Shutter priority, Aperture priority and Underwater.)"
They are both good cameras. Here's the link for the A540 review (they link to the A530 inside): http://www.steves-digicams.com/2006_reviews/a540_pg6.html
For me, 1 extra megapixel wouldn't be worth very much. 5-megapixels are more than enough for normal size prints. When you start making full-page prints, you'll start to see a tiny difference. The 540 is clearly better for movies however. If that's important to you, just get the 540.

I'd get the 540. It's nice that it has another million pixels and a bigger monitor, but the main reason is that the 540 offers shutter priority as well as aperture priority modes and the 530 does not. If you don't know what this means now, trust me, there may come a time when you wish you had this degree of control.
