It is what you make of it. If you feel that you cherish it too much that it stands in a way of other things, well then you know the answer to that. This goes for all so called addictions. I used to be a smoker too for 14 years no less, but I quit 4 years ago because I felt it was standing in the way of being healthy. I know can breath better and I don't have to run out like a lunatic out of the office for a cig every hour, I am more productive for that. As far as sin, there is no sin big or small, all sins can be deadly, and all can be overcome IF you can do it. The worst thing to do is to realize it is wrong yet continue doing it. That is what is said to harden your heart.

This has worked for every single one of my friends and works for me if I start smoking more than I'm comfortable (I average less than a pack a month -- not a carton, a pack, ie, less than a cig a day):
Don't worry about stopping. Seriously. You've convinced yourself that you're addicted to the cigarette. So let yourself be. BUT. Every time you pull out a cigarette, put the rest of the pack fully away, lift the cigarette to eye level, and look at it for a moment, and OUT LOUD (though not screaming, even just a whisper, but outloud is important), say to yourself, "I am making the conscious choice to smoke a cigarette." If you still crave it, smoke it without shame -- YOU chose IT, IT did not choose YOU. If you find the craving gone by the realization, put the cigarette back in the pack and go on with your life.
Hope this helps.

Yes it is. I know this because when I found out I was pregnant, I stopped smoking immediately and was fine. Haven't started back since and my daughter is ten months. The body will only do what your mind allows it to do. Don't let your mind have that much control over you.
And for the bud, you must have had some pretty strong stuff not to be able to function. LOL.

An addiction is something that you cant stop. In your mind set anyway. Start to believe and feel that you can let it go. Then start to believe and feel that you have let it go. Start by disiplining yourself a little. Try going just one day without a cigarette. If thats too hard go just half a day. Work your way up from there. Good Luck.

The physical aspect surprisingly does not take long to go away but it's the mental associations you have with smoking that keeps you resorting to it (i.e. you may have memories of feeling good or socializing when smoking and---even though you consciously know it's not true---you might feel that if you quit those feelings will be lost, ect). There's usually lies rooted in our past that keep us attached to addictions and to rid ourselves of them we must follow our triggered emotions (when we feel we MUST do the given action) to the root and ask God to show us truth in that area to find effortless release.

No, it's not in your mind. Nicotine is one of the most powefully addictive substances we put into our bodies. You are physically hooked. To the contrary, marijuana is not physically addictive at all, so it is not hard to quit so long as you are motivated.
For tobacco, you need to find a method that works for you - patch, gum, therapy, cold turkey, and find your motivation to quit. Good health is obviously the big one. Stick with it and stay strong and you will do fine.

From one addiction to another, most people who are very religious have addictive personalities. It's all mind over matter, when you're desire to quit smoking is stronger than your desire to smoke, you will stop. It's not god, it's you

Cigarrettes are the worse addiction to beat. Keep at it. I finally made it, been off the butts now for a year and a half. But it's a struggle every day.

No, nicotine IS a physical addiction. When one stops, one has physical symptoms of withdrawal.
My personal physician says he's had more success getting people off of heroin than he's had with smokers.
