Here is your best choices: In order of my opinion (brands)

Garmin: Go with the C series or the Nuvi series
Lowrance: iWay350C or iWay500C
TomTom: GO series and ONE series
Magellan: Roadmate series

In my opinion the Garmin units will be the most reliable, most extensive, and fairly easy to use.

Lowrance is loaded with features which make it a fantastic buy for the price, and it is easy to use and reliable

TomTom is fairly easy to use, similar to Garmin but is still behind them in the GPS industry.

Magellan is probably a little harder to use, but very extensive GPS

Hope this helps.

I would have to say GARMIN

They are bringing out some good sat nav's with some excellent feature and at a reasonable cost! Look out for the Garmin Nuvi and 660 models!

I've got a TOM TOM 700 and the NAVIGATOR 5 for my XDA phone which are pretty good and really quick to use. But they are well expensive to buy and a lot of people don't know this but the new TOM TOM's (510, 710 910) are built in the same factories as IPOD's, (issues with build quality and internal batteries, enough said)

Plus it depends on where you bought the unit from but the warrantied units are sent off to Holland for repair which can take at least a month to come back Garmin although a US company are based near southampton

But don't get me wrong both products are excellent but if you want one for a "reasonable" price then I would suggest the garmin!

Chuck the sat nav in the weee bin. the only difficulty conventional by utilising regulation is the speedometer geared up on your automobile. they're rarely ever precise, yet this is all you will desire to pass on in courtroom. you have got the accuracy checked on a rolling street, yet as your tyres placed on down in widespread use the speedo examining would be out. because of the fact of this they say + or - 10%. With the prat nav, you have a put off in the sign traveling to the countless satellites utilized by utilising them so theoretically your speed is a pair of seconds 'previous' while displayed. Gatso cameras use radar, Truvelo use wires in the line floor, the two calculate the time it takes to commute a sequence distance - giving your speed

I have used many different ypes of sat nav on PDA's and the one thats most user friendly is TOMTOM for PDA. You can also get the stand alone unit, but if he has a windows PDA I suggest getting him the software for it, rather than buying a second unit for him to lug around! Hope this helps you!

The BEST is TomTom - the 510 is bacic but excellent and above them is the 710 and 910.

I use the old model (300) and that is excellent for UK destinations. There are many other makes that "do the job" but I would recommend TomTom everytime.

easy to use and work: Tom Tom

Awsome functions / harder to use: Garmin.

Garmin's are (most models) for people who need more info than driving directions, and have 100x of options

The Tom Tom is a point A to B GPS machine...

if you want a indash, meaning that it will take the place of your radio, then the pioneer n3 cannot be beat. if he travels a lot, you can buy XM radio, and it will work with the GPS and base his route based on the traffic report. so if there is a traffic jam on his main route, it will take him anther way where traffic is flowing.
