There are several ways to overcome depression and aniexty. I personally am a sufferer of the same. I have moderate depression and with GAD (General Anxiety Disorder). Initially you may need to be medicated to overcome this. Alot of people disgree with medication but uless they have acutually been through this or actually have experianced any of the two they really have no room to comment about medications. Meds help to cope with the issue until you can fully cope without them. A good way to overcome is to get yourself some therapy and see a psychiatrist. With the mixture of the meds and therapy you CAN and WILL overcome these two. I have been medicated about five years ago for this and went to weekly therapy and honestly worked wonders. Depression in a sense is somewhat like alchoholism Yes you can fall off the band wagon, just as I did I am now to start meds and therapy again but went 5 years with out medications. Don't be so hard on yourself, more people then you know actually experiance and are medicated and are living full functional lives. In the meantime till you can get to a doctor the best solution to Aniext attacks (Worked for me) make sure that you are getting Plenty of sleep, eating correctly, avoiding CAFFINE AND BOOZE (THOSE ARE TWO MAJOR CONTRIBUTORS TO PRODUCING ANXIETY AND DEPRESSION). If you feel an Anxiety attacking coming remain calm, take in 10 Deep breaths release slowly, tense every muscle in your body and release one at a time, honestly works like a charm (taught by my therapist). The answer is Yes you can overcome this. I wish the best of luck to you!

Oh sorry hon, that's a hard one to accomplish on your own. Depression can be of an organic disorder or the result of a traumatic event in your life. Anxiety is due to stress, and the inability to cope with situations and stresses at the time anxiety is experienced. A very disciplined and resilient person can, but normally resiliaet person's don't often become depressed. It might be possible to overcome depression in time, but in a state of depression it is unlikely. Seeing a Doctor can be a big help, they will have a short paper test to take and will determine quickly according to scores if you need antidepressant medications. They can do wonders, and might only need to be taken temporarily, while you receive counseling--counseling or therapy helps to teach and provide you with coping skills so your thoughts are not your worst enemy. What I mean by that is thoughts that keep you into a depressed state. Live is 10% what happens and 10% of how you react to it. Seek help, see a doctor, and soon you will be amazed how much better you feel. Anxiety alone, can lead you into depression, it's a very scary think. Alot of people have, and you'd be surprised that there may be many people you know who have felt the way you do (or the one your asking about) who did seek help and take an antidepressant. Treatment today is so effective now that you really should talk to a doctor. Do it soon and in a matter of weeks, you'll feel so much better! Good luck!

There is "treatment" for depression and anxiety. Sometimes it results in a "cure," sometimes it does not. Medications can alleviate the symptoms of such conditions, but they are not a cure. Counseling by a skilled therapist can point the way for an anxious/depressed person to deal with the causes of those feelings which have become so deeply embedded in the psyche that the person's normal functioning has been affected. It is relatively rare, in a severe case, for the person to work his or her way out of the problem without those kinds of help. But on the brighter side, the one-word answer to your question is: Yes.

I think you should first see your doctor and if he/she suggests it, a psychiatrist. There are lots of treatments. Of course the right medication will really help. Also very useful are groups that work on these topics. They are led be mental health workers and psychiatrists. Depending on your type and severity of depression and anxiety you may get cured. For example, if it is the result of an emotional trauma in your life. Others with a chemical imbalance in their brain can't be cured but sure can lead a very functional and rewarding life with the support of your doctors.

They are two different things. I've known a dozen or so friends who took pills to cure depression...while it helps a while, they can also backfire. If you take pills via psychiatrist, don't take them longer than a year. They are intended to help you through a specific emotional crises. One friend of mine was eventually put on over a dozen drugs, which eventually made her suicidal, and all the doctors refuseed to "let" her off them. She finally did it on her own. And she has days when she cries and is miserable, but she feels like herself, and she knows that the sadness is hers and isn't related to side-effects of drugs.

Anxiety is different, but the same. You don't want to get on tons of drugs, but people I know who are anxious end up having a bottle of Paxil that they might take during periods of anxiousness, but most don't take them regularly, or even daily.

For both issues seeking counselling helps. There are lots of different types of consellors, ask around to find one whose approach you like. Some focus on your past and how that effects you (which always makes me more depressed) and some focus on ways you find 'triggers' and avoid them (which i much prefer). But I have talke a lot about hte past already...so maybe people need to start with that. Dunno.

A combo of antidepressant/ antianxiety medication (e.g., Lexapro, Zoloft, etc.) and Cogntive-Behavioral Therapy can often provide great improvement in symptoms! Contact your family practitioner for a referral to a psychiatrist and seek out therapy as well from a psychologist or counselor.

Depression means you feel that you have to defend yourself for your own way of thinking instead of feeling proud of YOUR way of thinking.
To ask for a cure means that you have taken on the FASCIST Ideas of the general public and/or Government that thinking is an illness.
The only way out is to EXPRESS yourself.
Find something you enjoy doing and don't follow other peoples rules.
Smoke a Joint and Relax.
NEVER by any means take any medication that any doctor prescribes to you. THEY WILL KILL YOU.
Thinking is a virtue, not an illness!!!
Stay cool!!!

You've taken the first step by asking. There is help. Call Dr. Frank Minirith at: 972.669.1733. He or someone at that number can help you or probably/possibly direct you to a person, since I don't know what state you're in, who can help you or a friend/aquaintance. Good luck!
