For the same reason good Christians take meth and get oral pleasure from gay prostitutes. Why should a happily married pastor have drugged-out gay sex?
Your question is just Same S#it, Different Day. God DOES NOT equal "Religion & Spirituality", and assuming so is just the Christian way of thinking you control the world.
Non-Christians know about Christianity because most of us believed at one time before you all drove us away. End of story.
However, how many Christians actually understand the non-religious side of things? If very few of you have ever even considered living without the invisible man in the sky, then I propose it is Christians that don't know what they're talking about.

- To learn to understand theists better so that we can get along with them better. (To be honest, more theists should try the same.)
- To offer our view on things and hear other people's view. It's good to know different views on subjects, including religion-related subjects.
- To answer questions people have about us and our beliefs.
- To defend ourselves and correct misconceptions people have about us.
- To learn about various religions.
- To participate in debates on subjects like creation vs evolution.
One does not need to believe in God in order to know something about religion and spirituality or have an opinion. Not all atheists are ignorant on these subjects either. In fact, many atheists are former believers.
This section is not exclusively for believers. Should the car section be exclusively for mechanics?

"God" is not the only concept that falls under "Religion and Spirituality", first of all. Second, you may notice that not everyone in any category knows what they're talking about. You will receive answers that you don't want to hear and ones you do. There is more than one answer to a question, particularly in this category, where people's beliefs often get trumpeted as "facts". That's the way it is.

This question is getting old, I am not atheist but I am not religious either, just because they are atheist does not mean they do not know anything about the subjects like you said, actually they have done extensive studies and many times know much more than some religious people that just follow what they have been told and have no idea what they are talking about.

We are here because:
1) People ask us questions (like this one) and we feel we should represent ourselves.
2) People talk badly about us, so we feel we need to be here to defend ourselves.
3) We seek knowledge and truth, but we can't know the real truth without understanding your points of view as a religion. We want to know what and why you think the way you do.
Hopefully that has helped you understand.

I don't believe. I visit the religion & spirituality section to watch the primitive behaviour of the natives, much like visiting a nature reserve. I input my way of thinking hoping some confused kid will start thinking straight.

Because they want turn the the rest of those who believe into an atheists like thenselves.
I don't get it why when you have decided on your own convictions, should intervine with other's opinions and believes. We don't need to be all alike, just let the peple be and think whatever they wanna think, in other words Get a Life!

I would venture a guess that atheists probably know more about your religion than you do.
This is not called the "Believers Only Section" for a reason.
Atheists run the R&S section...

All questions appear on the home page and most people do not go looking for a fight in the Religion & Spirituallity section.
Someone that bases their opinion on faith knows less about what they are talking about than someone that bases their opinion on facts.

You are pretty closed in your views of religion and spirituality. They do not ALL include your God.
To name a few:
Hinduism, Buddhism, Wiccan, Humanism.
These have either different gods or spiritualism.
