The "old timer" brand is a good general pocket knife to carry. My father(rip) carried one from his induction in the army during WW II until he passed away.I my self carry one of this brand.

Well I have a classic Old Timer which I love. I also have a Kershaw by Ken Onion that I carry with me every where.
I like the Kershaw because the blade has stayed sharp with a lot of use. I just sharpened it after owning it a little more than a year. It also has a spring assisted blade.
I like the Old Timer because it is very useful and decently small. And it also has tradition.
I have also owned a Spyderco. Although they are pricey they are a good knife.
Benchmade is also another quality knife you should look into.
I also have owned a Columbia River CRKT. And I probably wont own another.
Maybe if you have a Wal-mart you could go down there and look at the knives. Or any hunting store should have them. Just find one that you think fits your dad, not one that you think is badass. Well good luck hopefully you get a good knife.

Depends on a few things. How much do you want to spend? What will he mostly be useing it for? I good knife that is cheap but not cheaply made are the CRKT line. Great knives I have a few. Spyderco make great knives as well. I have the ATR (at the ready) and I just love it. The Spyderco get up there in price. BUCK, Benchmade, Kershaw and I could go on from there. Have you thought of a multi tool? SOG, Gerber or Leatherman make great ones.

If it's just a pocket knife I'll go without hesitation for a Buck. If it's more like a pocket tool than I'll go for the Leatherman.
Don't forget to ask him for a dime, in some culture you don't offer a loved one a cutting object, it cuts away the relationship. That was for the little story.

a knife is like any other tool... get the one designed for the job it is intended first of all... Victorinox makes a variety of really nice Swiss army knives... other quality brands are Buck, Schrade, Kershaw, Spydaco and Gerber. There are others, I just can't think of them at the moment...

pocket knifes are affordable, they're in elementary terms a chew of sharpened steel. I doubt your going to wish something extremely hardcore, yet once you like some thing like that choose for SOG. additionally, CRKT and Swiss are evoked. yet they're high priced, and no dont purchase them used. BUDK dot com has a robust determination and format

Swiss Army knife - it's the original pocket knife, and not only does it have a blade, it has other functions, such as a corkscrew, nail file and tweezers. All handy!

I'm partial to schrade or ole timer brands. Try to buy something made in the USA if you can though.
