Click on the Start button and select "Run"
Type in: charmap
This will open a windows that displays all the characters available in the font you are using, and the keycode to typt them. Find the symbol you are looking for, and hover the cursor over it. Should pop up a little window that display the keyboard combination for typing it. (Or, you can click on it to select it, click the copy button at the bottom of the window, and then paste it into you document).

In order to get the Vertical line, you should be able to press shift. If you are talking about the vertical line directly above the enter key, then it should work.

Examine your keyboard. If it has "FN" key, press it plus the character you wanted
