Dear Stephen,
Religion no.
Relationship with the awesome uncreated Creator of the universe a huge YES! And not just "nowadays" but every nanosecond of every day for ever and ever and ever.
I know this for a fact because for far too many days of my life I didn't have that Relationship.
I know this not by indoctrination but by personal experience. There are a whole lot of things I wish I had never done in my life and some things I wish I had put off until later.
The one and only thing I wish I had done sooner was to read The Daily Walk Bible from cover-to-cover. I did do that in 1992 when my life was falling apart. Now I read a Bible from cover-to-cover every year. This year I'm reading The Daily Bible in Chronological Order.

No we dont. Through the ages, religion has always said "we know all the answers and the truth". Just take a look at the world around you. We need to ask lots and lots of questions, and seek answers and truth. Religion goes part of the way, but there is still a long way to go.

Everybody has a personal religion and a personal God; god being the thing each person holds most important. Their religion is the belief structure they build to justify their own choices.
There still is a God which calls to His lost creation. Some never hear and follow their own imagination, some hear and do not respond. These people form religions, including Christianity, to profit from the religious nature of mankind and maintain political and spiritual control.
Some hear the call of God and follow. The Lord Jesus Christ knows His own and we know His voice.

Beware the goobeldegook!
A lot of people are really insecure and religion provides them with a blanket to base their morales on. It shouldn't be needed but it is. I tend to agree with you but also waver on religion. What if there is a God, I know that most religion indoctorine is based on fear, but what if! What if all it takes is faith across the whole of mankind to actually make this world a better place, that is the objective surely. A god is a direction to that ultimate aim. Creationism is ridiculous but belief in a higher power is not, yet, as their is too much we don't know. The answer to is there a god is totally unpredictable and our tiny little brains can't comprehend much. As an aside the unification of mankind will never happen, we are too petty and greedy so we will probably never know what we are capable of. God, if he does exist probably god fucked of a long time ago, there is only so much a person can't take and if we are made in his image then he probably doesn't care anymore, apart from people that follow his path sacredly, and who wants to do that, we are all going to hell, if it exists!

At the heart of every major conflict in the world is religion. Do we want to be terrorised by extreme Muslims? Do we want a Middle East teetering on the brink of war because of continuing religious differences? And do we want to be afraid to say certain things or do certain things or celebrate certain things because it might offend someone else's religion?
Of course we don't need open religion. It should be a private matter for individuals, or confined to churches, mosques etc.

I dont believe in any religion I believe in the human spirit. The way us humans can find a way through anything wether that be by turning to a god or family or just whatever it takes to help them.
Everyone is different and its these differences that makes us interesting. I know Muslims, Jehovas witness' and christians and talking to them about theeir beliefs does open your eyes. Belief is a choice and everyone has that freedom of choice.

There will always be a need for religion. As long as we die, those living beyond us have a need to believe that there is something better that their loved ones go to. If nothing else, that reason alone will keep religion alive.

There are so many false religions out there. When you talk of religion people get turned off by the concept of religion. However, it is not religion we need, but it is Jesus Christ we need, to have a relationship with him. Only through him we can attain eternal life a way to true salvation and happiness.

we dont know all the answers thats why we are in a mess, One of the reasons for this is we are afraid of the truth, so we dont want the answers we need, they might stop people enjoying the sinns that they like to wallow in,Including death and destruction, We have a nice word for it now, we call it " modernisation " which is actualy ancient,We are going back to sinns that caused the destruction of cities and nations of ancient times. When you hear that word modernisers you know you will be backing a looser if you beleive them.

the choice is yours entirely!
i know that i need god but then i cant say to anyone that they do also,
i agree that it causes problems but then so do most things,
even if we dont believe in a god we should all follow every religions key point and thats to get along and be peaceful,
