They can not "make" you testify but they sure can intimidate you into wanting to do so. I do know that they do this every often. According to the Bill of Rights, a husband or wife can not be forced to testify against their spouse but they intimidate them into doing so all of the time, even if it is to give false testimony at times. I have had many women tell me that they were told by Child Protective Services or women shelters that they had to accuse their husbands of child abuse even if they did not do it or they would take their children away from both of them.

As others have said already, they can also place you in jail until you become willing to testify. It is even possible that this could even be a life sentence....without charges.

If I remember from my law studies it depends on the trial. Usually the summons that you are served should indicate whether or not if you will testify or not. However, in most cases yesyou will have to.

They can make you testify but they can't make you take an oath if you object on relgious grounds. You can "affirm" rather than swear.

Possibly. You don't have to if you're the defendant, or the defendant's spouse. And you don't have to say anything that's covered by doctor patient confidentiality.
