Take the goat over first
Return for the lion
Take lion over and return with the goat
Leave the goat and take the cabbage
(This gives lion and cabbage on far side, goat on this side)
Rteurn empty
Take the goat over last

But then.......as they all sit around and clap each other on the back (Or on a leaf in the case of the cabbage)......a team of cannibals descend from the trees and eats them all. Except the cabbage. And the boat.

Moral is: Cabbages live longer.

The man should take the goat, then he goes to get the cabbage. He takes the goat back, gets the lion, and takes it across, then he gets the goat.

he takes the goat first,
and then he takes the lion,
but he takes the goat back with him,
leave the goat where the cabbage was,
and takes the cabbage with him to the lion's side,
then he goes back to take the goat.

p.s. it can't be because the lion would eat him in the first place. hehehe.

On the first trip take goat across (lion won't eat cabbage)
On the second trip take cabbage across & bring goat back.
On the third trip across, take lion (he still won't eat cabbage)
On the fourth trip across, you can safely take the goat back over for a second time.
