Mormons are from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
They were founded by Joseph Smith Jr back in the 1800's
According to their religion, Joseph Smith found some gold plates, as well as two seer stones. He was able to translate the plates, (allegedly written in 'reformed Egyptian), with the help of the stones, thus writing the Book of Mormon.
Their belief is that sometime during Old Testament time (I don't know the time frame) Levi(?) and his family got onto a boat and landed in the America's. They had a huge and thriving civilization that covered the Americas.
Two brothers got into a fight at some time, each having those that followed them and one group slayed the other group. God got angry and turned the surviving group red (thus you have Native Americans)
Eventually they became to Native Americans that were found on the continents when Europeans showed up.
When Christ died, he appeared to the apostles and also to the Native Americans.
According to their beliefs, God and Jesus told Joseph Smith Jr that no religion was correct and to start his own.

That is the basics of the beginning.

The mormon religion began when Joseph Smith said an angel called "moroni" appeared to him in 1827 to give him the book that would become the book of mormon. For a deeper understanding of what the mormons believe check out the links provided.

A religious person who believes that Jesus Christ has visited Earth on Behalf of his father more than once. The second coming happened in the US. Mormons are hated and ridiculed for these beliefs = but = and there is always a but. I lived in Utah which is the center of their church. I observed the only true christians in the US. I don't believe, but if you are a Mormon in good standing and become disabled they will support your family for the rest of your life. All US religions preach this and take masses of your money every Sunday, but you just let something happen and watch them run to give the money to the "poor" in "Africa.

Technically, a mamber of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a sect based on the writings of one Joseph Smith, who claimed to have translated them from inscriptions on metal plates that he found in the ground in New York State. The writings include lengthy descriptions of warfare between the Nephites [good] and the Lamanites [bad]; the good guys believe in god and that Jesus is coming to deliver salvation. As such, it is a Christian church.

"Mormon" is merely a nick-name for the member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

"Mormon's" are Christian's.

We believe in God the Eternal Father, and in His Son Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.

We believe that man will be punished for their own sins and not for Adam's transgressions.

We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, that all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.

We believe that the first priniples and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentence; third, Baptism by immersion for the remmission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the Gift of the Holy Ghost.

We believe that a man must be called of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands by those who are in authority, to preach the Gospel and administer in the ordinances thereof.

We believe in the same organization that existed in the Primitive Church, namely, apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evengelists, and so forth.

We believe in the gift of tongues, prophecy, revelation, visions, healing, interpretation of tongues, and so forth.

We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the world of God.

We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.

We believe in the literal gathering of Isreal and in the restoration of the Ten Trible; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent; that Christ will reign personally upon the earth; and, that the earth will be renewed and recieve its paradisiacal glory.

We claim the privilege of worshiping Almight God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worthsip how, where, or what they may.

We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.

We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul - We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.

They are a cult to put it mildly. They have great "rules", but God does not like rules. He wants your heart, he wants your entire being, then doing right is what follows.

Oh and not every Mormon has ten thousand wives. I know plenty who have only one wife.
