A RAR file is a compressed file. It is used to reduce the size of file(s) for e-mailing or Internet downloads. A RAR file may contain literally any kind of file inside it. You need a program to uncompress the RAR file. (On the PC side, would recommend WinRAR. Not sure what is available for the MAC). The decompression program will extract the file(s) out of the RAR file. They may already be in mp3 format once extracted. If not, you will need to convert whatever format is inside the RAR file to mp3. But until you extract the file(s), no way of knowing what is inside to tell you how to convert.

The program you need is called "winrar". You may be able to get it for free, but I had to pay fifty bucks for mine.
