I work in a call center that sells everything from clothing, flowers, toys, food and home furnishings. And with the holidays coming up I was needing to know if there are any restrictions? I do know that in the Jewish faith they do not mix meat and dairy (or if I am wrong I do sincerely apologize) but I was wondering if there were any others? Please indicate what faith you are sending your answer about. Thanks

I follow the teaching of the life of Ifa. Yoruba tradition. On my end everyone is different. So people are instructed not to eat meat not to drink certain types of wines etc. I cannot eat sea food. My head is believe to be split under the orisa of love sweet waters and all things sweet Osun and the mother of all orisa Yemonja. I am not allowed to partake of anyhting from the sea. I use to eat it but when i choose this part i couldn't eat it.

Thank you for this question. It is interesting that you are being so careful as to know this for your job in the call center. I compliment you on that.

I am speaking as a Muslim Imam.

When it comes to food restrictions on Muslims it should be simple, no pork or meat that is not halal (meaning it was slaughtered in the name of God and in a specific process). There are other animals that are not allowed but these are few and not really commonly sold these days. All other animals are allowed but must be slaughtered in the halal way.

Food additives such as gelatin or "enzymes" for cheeses must not come from Pork. There are lists of allowed additives that you can find on the web.

Alcohol is not allowed at all. This includes wine and beer and any food that has been processed with alcohol including chocolates that have alcohol based flavors. Vanilla extract is a common problem in that it usually has bourbon or other flavorings in it that are alcohol based. Be careful that all vanilla says "non alcoholic". These substances are more and more commonly found without alcohol because many people who have had problems with alcohol require non alcoholic foods as well.

There is a lot more to this, if you have questions on particular foods or food additives you can contact me through my profile.

Peace and Blessings,

Salim

Muslims cant eat pork, and other haram meat, drink alcohol. Anything with derivates from the above stuff is haram.

By other Haram meat I mean meat which is not Halal. Halal meat is meat slaughtered by Muslims, so make sure it has the halal certification.

And I think Kosher is not just mixing meat and dairy. They have to remove the large artery from an animals leg, or something like that.

Muslims do not drink alcohol and only eat halal meat, therefore any foods containing ingredients from animals that are non-halal (pig, horse, donkey etc) or alcohol are not permitted.
