I used to weigh 230 pounds and I am 6ft tall. I am a 17 year old male. According to the BMI scale I was considered obese. Now I lost 20 pounds in 2 weeks. I weigh 210 pounds. I am continuing to lose weight. I used to do all that proper dieting and exercising but it wasn't doing any justice. Neither did the Atkins diet. I intend to stop around 180 pounds, but am I on the road to anorexia?

I don't know about Anorexia, as you do not giving further details on why you are drastically reducing your calorie intake. You, as a 6ft man cannot expect to live on 1000 calories a day, until you reach your goal of 180lb. I hope you realise, that you will be losing a hell of a lot of muscle by eating so little. What you may find, that even when you reach your goal, you end up with a higher body fat percentage! Please start eating at least 1,500 calories per day. Just cut out refined carbs and limit snacks. Eat plent of good carbs, including wholemeal foods and fresh fruit/vegetables. Also increase good proteins, such as lean meats, poultry, eggs and oily fish.

Do you enjoy exercise? Because you need to start working out again. Include both cardio and weight training at least 3 times a week. You want to maintain and build that muscle and lose fat, don't you? Then you know what you gotta do. Take care : )

I think that you can keep it under control and not become anorexic, but I think you can allow yourself several more hundred calories a day. At 1000 a day you risk extreme loss of energy and fatigue. I am, however, impressed with your willpower to do this. I know that I would never be able to stop at 1000 calories if I was still hungry.

a pound = 3500 calories. Therefore, if you subtract 500 calories from your daily intake, you lose a pound a week. You should not really lose more than two pounds a week. it's not healthy.

A boy your age and size should eat about 2500 calories a day, so therefore if you cut it down to 1500 calories a day, you'll lose two pounds a week.

Continue to exercise. Even if you can't tell that you're losing weight from that, it's a healthy habit and will help you get toned as well as thinner, and the more muscle you have, the faster your fat will be burned, as muscle burns fat faster than fat burns fat.

Good luck!

Actually you should be at about 1400-1600 cal. a day for a guy. A woman could get away with 1000-1200 cal a day. Men tend to lose weight quicker. What you're doing is just giving your body enough calories to function and that's it! Try adding a few in the form of protein. You'll still lose the weight, but you'll feel alot better and your body won't get the idea it's starving to death and start to slow your metabolism. I would also suggest that you go to a gym for a "freebie" week and consult with a local expert regarding building muscle as you diet. Losing 20 lbs. in two weeks is not healthy, Dude. So get some expert advice and get buff while you're at it. Very proud of your achievement! Godloveya.

The Atkins diet does work for rapid weight loss. My son in-law that is in the Army used it when ever the Army saw him as being over weight and he had to loose. The trouble is, the weight comes back as soon as you eat normal again. A 1000 calories a day isn't enough for a man that is 6' tall. Are you still in school?
There might be a school nurse or health teacher that could help you come up with a diet plan that would work for life.

1000 cal a day is not good. Yes, you are slowly starving yourself. If you are having trouble loosing weight, maybe you should see a dietician or nutrition expert and explain to them why you want to loose weight, any health problems,....so that they can develop a proper diet for your lifestyle. Just because Atkins worked for some, doesn't mean it's gonna work for you. When you consume less calories, your body gets used to only having 1000 cals a day, so your metabolism actually slows down so it doesn't burn all its energy too quickly. It's exactly what happens to your body if you're lost in the woods for example. A human can go 7 days without eating because your body will start to slow everything down in order to survive. You really need to increase your calory intake and see a dietician.

You're looking to die, son. To hit a weight of 180 you should be consuming 1800 calories, that would maintain this weight for you. Exercise and proper nutrition is the only way to go. There is no way you did proper dieting and exercise without results. You filched somewhere along the line. Get honest with yourself. You are too young for a starvation diet and you could be doing major damage to you internal organs.

Only one meal contains about 500 calories. And for a guy, that's some serious malnutrition. How about you turn the extra fat into muscles instead? At your age, you're still developing muscular tissue and internal organs. It could damage your growth. Be careful.

that is not enough calories. Although you will see the pounds falling off fast right now, eventually it will completely stop and your body will think its starving itself and reserve all the energy you have.

If you start eating 'normally' again, your body will go into shock and start piling the pounds back on as it will still be in 'starve' mode.
