Zinc is found in every cell in the body and is a compenent or cofactor in over 200 enzymes. It is essential for good health, proper immune functioning, wound healing, sensory function, sexual functions, and skin health. It plays a major role in sex hormones, insulin, and growth hormones.
Good sources of zinc include oysters, meat, eggs, seafood, lack-eyed peas, tofu, and wheat germ.
Daily intakes of 15-25 mg are usually adequate to prevent deificiencies. Do not take more than 50 mg a day unless under professional supervision.
