I have tried all the major Anti-Dandroff shampoo's, and specific brands seem to work for a few weeks, but then the flakes just return, and I do not stop using the shampoo.

I do Gel my hair on a daily basis, but i have had these flakes most of my adult life, even before I started to gel my hair.

Can anyone recommend a shampoo that can be purchased without prescription)

dont use head&shoulders cos it makes your hair fall out.

i swear by t-gel...u can get it for diff hair conditions like greasy/dry etc...but if ur scalp is really bad use the one with tar in...it might make ur hair smell a bit like petrol but it works wonders.

or if u want try massaging warm oil into your scalp...like jasmine oil or something along those lines...actually vaseline oil (its in a clear bottle and the oil is clear...should be able to get from big supermarkets or chemists but if not then an asian supermaket will definately stock it!)...and leave in over night and wash thoroughly next day. do this once a week. but if leaving hair full of massaged oil seems too much hassle cos then ur pillow gets greasey stains! then just leave in for bout an hour before u wash your hair.

hope thats helped a wee bit!

best thing i would suggest is to go into a salon and have them consult to u what would be best. most people don't realise that only 5% of the worlds population have dandruff. so it is actually quite rare and is often miss diagnosed. u probably have a sensitive skin and what ever shampoo u r using isn't helping as its for the wrong problem.
as i say go into a salon as most give free consultations and would be more than happy to help u.
if it is a case of sensitive scalp, Ur gel may be making it worse, so ask them about it. make sure u always use a gel that is water soluble, to prevent build up.

salon products are also Ur best option to solve the problem.
good luck and i hope that this has help u.

AVEDA Scalp Remedy: shampoo, conditioner, and Serum. These are great products, and have solved many of my clients flaky woes..... While a little on the pricy side, sounds like you've wasted a lot more money looking for one that works. Give them a try... You won't be dissapointed. Good luck, and I hope this helps.

Stop using anti-dandruff products, because if the problem is dry skin or product irritation, the medications in those products will make the problem worse!
seek your doctors advice as to whether you have dandruff, once armed with that info, seek a professional stylists help.

Dandruff is a disease, it is hard to treat it with anti dandruff shampoos. I suggest you to get treated in a most safest manner to remove your dandruff completely.Dandruff in the long run may cause excessive hairfall or even baldness. There is a really good shampoo on the market called T-Gel. it is really good for flaky scalps!!

Have you tried changing your hair products? This is what could be causing the flakiness

Nizoral is a really good over-the-counter dandruff shampoo. You can purchase it at any Walmart for about $10-14.00.

I'm attaching a link so that you can see what the packaging looks like:

I've been very satisfied with the results from using it. You can also purchase Witch Hazel (they sell one that is especially formulated for the scalp. You can find it at Walmart or at just about any beauty supply store in your area).

TGel is really good and sorted me out. Otherwise go to your local Chemist and speak to the Pharmacist as they may be able to recommend something for you.
