Yes. There are a lot of folks that would not have a Thanksgiving if people didn not donate food. We have a local food pantry that is run by my church, and it is always full year round. People can come in and take whatever they need. At Thanksgiving, we offer gift certificates to our local grocery stores so that they can go and choose what they like for Thanksgiving. This is a real treat for some people, as food shopping is not a thing they can freely do. So yes - and it is something that makes you feel wonderful, and very thankful for what you have.

That's very sweet, that your uncle did that. I hope that not too many people took advantage of it.
In answer to your question, yes, I am. There's a family in our neighborhood that's really struggling. The husband is a PFC in the US Army, and they have three kids. They had to pay a fortune in lawyer's fees to get all three kids over here (it's a mixed family, we're on a military post in Germany)...so a bunch of us from the church I go to are donating money so that the family can have a good Thanksgiving.

No, but I will be opening my home to several friends who do not have families to spend Thanksgiving with or who could not otherwise afford a Thanksgiving dinner. My wife and I have done this every year since we have been married (18 years).

Yes, we give to our local food bank and two other local charities---all through the year. It's nice to help out in November and December, but these charities need help the other ten months of the year too.
Kudos to your uncle! What a wonderful idea!

One of our goals (my husband and I) is to open a soup kitchen where we can give food to the needy. The funding is not there for us yet, but one day it will be. I think it would be so joyful to help people out that way. Right now, we contribute monthly food/canned goods to the needy through our food bank and various grocery stores.

Yes, we are. I know of about five families in my neighborhood who are poor. We help them out during the year as well. Two families lost the father due to cancer. The others, the father has a job but they still find it hard to make ends meet. Some of the children come to our farm and help out with the animals and we pay them for their help. One family's mother is disabled. We care about them and offer any sort of help they need. We've sort of adopted them as part of our extended family. My husband comes from a rich family. He says there's no better way to spend money then to help someone in need.

It's a wonderful thing to do. Years ago I was down and out and alone on Thanksgiving and a friend knocked on my door and said they were taking me out for Thanksgiving Diner. I will never forget it.

Nope. I like to do it for Christmas instead. Where i am from Thanksgiving is not a holiday. But we do have celebrations all around the year where we do give thanks for all that we have and feed as many people as we can.
