GEN 16:1 Now Sarai, Abram's wife, had borne him no children. But she had an Egyptian maidservant named Hagar; 2 so she said to Abram, "The LORD has kept me from having children. Go, sleep with my maidservant; perhaps I can build a family through her."
Abram agreed to what Sarai said. 3 So after Abram had been living in Canaan ten years, Sarai his wife took her Egyptian maidservant Hagar and gave her to her husband to be his wife. 4 He slept with Hagar, and she conceived.
When she knew she was pregnant, she began to despise her mistress. 5 Then Sarai said to Abram, "You are responsible for the wrong I am suffering. I put my servant in your arms, and now that she knows she is pregnant, she despises me. May the LORD judge between you and me."
6 "Your servant is in your hands," Abram said. "Do with her whatever you think best." Then Sarai mistreated Hagar; so she fled from her.
Damn!He married her(Hagar, see verse 3), got her pregnant then didn't defend her!

the servent was no fool and knew very well what she got into willingly, her pride got the better of her as she was aware of her mistress's conditoin and wanted to take advantage of the situatoin'sarai had no right to ill treat hagar, but was afraid to loose all, hence her riaction is justyfied, but abram is to blame too as had he not disired a child, this situation would not arise, ultimately both women lost to give 'n' gain

Your problem is your trying to fit an ancient culture and custom with 20th century America. Does not always work.
There is a big difference between custom and standard! Remember that the next time you read the Old Testament

Am not familiar with that..but I do think that if Sarah had the mind to suggest Abraham take a handmaiden for concubine as it is the norm for that day, she would have the mind not to cause trouble afterwards.
Check the following. Abraham had four wives. Not two.

You really need to keep reading.........
"To wife"... Plurality of wives, though contrary to the primitive institution of marriage, Gen. 2. 24, was by divine dispensation allowed to the patriarchs: which allowance seems to have continued during the time of the law of Moses. But Christ our Lord reduced marriage to its primitive institution. Matt. 19.
Book Of Genesis
Chapter 17
15 God said also to Abraham: Sarai thy wife thou shalt not call Sarai, but Sara. 16 And I will bless her, and of her I will give thee a son, whom I will bless, and he shall become nations, and kings of people shall spring from him. 17 Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, saying in his heart: Shall a son, thinkest thou, be born to him that is a hundred years old? and shall Sara that is ninety years old bring forth? 18 And he said to God: O that Ismael may live before thee. 19 And God said to Abraham: Sara thy wife shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name Isaac, and I will establish my covenant with him for a perpetual covenant, and with his seed after him. 20 And as for Ismael I have also heard thee. Behold, I will bless him, and increase, and multiply him exceedingly: he shall beget twelve chiefs, and I will make him a great nation.
"Abram"... in the Hebrew, signifies a high father: but Abraham, the father of the multitude; Sarai signifies my Lady, but Sara absolutely Lady.

this says Abraham and Sarah were human. and at that time they didn't believe what God told them. they put it upon themselves, instead of waiting on the Lord. so everyone involved got hurt. ALL because, no one wanted to wait for Gods timing.......If you look back, any of you(includes myself). can you see times when, you just couldn't wait, and everything YOU thought, would be good, did not turn out the way you it was suppose to......God bless you

He is the cause why we have so much troubles even that he is called the father of faith, he didn't believe God and thought that he could help God in his promise. If he didn't listen to Sarah and didn't laid with the salve there would not be Ishmael, nor Arabs and no Mohammad and no Islam and no Islamic terrorists.

I don't know about the authenticity of the story. But, people in the old days had their own customs and standards of living. What we consider "just", "fair", or "right" now was probably not the norm then.
