Hi there...some cats develop problems with leaky anal glands or need to be expressed if they are impacted which a vet can teach you safely how to do this.

There are several problems that can contribute to this. First, the fluid may become thickened and solidify, leading to a condition called an impaction. The bacteria that are naturally present in that area can produce an infection. Pus collects in the anal sac and forms an abscess. The area becomes tender and swollen and the skin over the anal sac breaks open so that the pus may drain out which is what you may be smelling.

Here are a few articles on feline anal sac problems: http://cats.about.com/cs/healthissues/a/analglands.htm

I have a little kitten who is like this. She is five months old by now. I put big old beach towels on places where she goes right after she goes to the bathroom like she gets up on this desk. I took everything off the desk. My daughter and I ,sometimes, when we first got her wiped her bottom with a wet paper towel after. She is way more stinky than any of my other cats. She is getting better now and cleaning herself. yours will get better I think with time. I also throw all the beach towels in the washer with bleach every few days.

Your vet should be able to at least check her out and see what's going on. I've never had a cat with a problem like this, so it would tell me something isn't right. I think just like dogs they can have their anal glands cleaned, but a vet should do it so she doesn't get hurt. Could also be what she is eating try changing up her food a little.

it sounds like she's not cleaning herself properly.
after you notice her go to the bathroom smear a tiny bit of wet cat food on her bottom. this will stimulate her to clean herself.

my male kitten has this same problem and i have started doing this with him. it seems to be working so far although i have better luck putting a dab of tuna juice on him. he's getting to the point now where he cleans himself without having to do that.

my kitten was really sick when i first got him and very skinny so i feed him wet food right now to put some weight on him. he is very gassy and once he's good in weight will be going off wet food. so a change in diet may help your kitty.

i hope this helps in any small way.
good luck.

My kitten had the same problem - she left like spots everytime she sat down after she would poop but after a while of chasing her with baby wipes after she went she figured out to clean herself after she poops. Took about 2 months of me chasing her with a baby wipe for her to start doing it herself. Hopefully your kitty does the same. Good luck.

A different vet and clinic will tell you, there is something wrong! There is an infection or a bacterial infection somewhere. Kitty don't like this either.

Unfortunately she wasn't taught properly by her mother on how to clean herself. This often happens when the kittens are taken away too early.

Unless you can teach her to do it, you might have to put up with it.
