As long as we are still involved in Iraq, you will go. If you think you would like a military life but don't really want to go to Iraq, you might think about the US Coast Guard. Boot camp is on the same level of difficulty as the Marines. You will have all the same military benefits and schooling opportunities but you will most likely be involved in saving lives and protecting us here in our homeland. You could be stationed on a cutter where you will tour the world or you could be stationed at a small boat station where you board foreign vessels to check for illegal activity or you could be stationed at an air station where you could jump out of helicopters in stormy seas or a wide variety of other stations. The range of possibilities is huge as is the range of educational and training options. Take a look.

If you join the Marines, you're guaranteed to see the world. It's just unfortunate that they are the parts of the world where no one else wants to go. Iraq is one of the more popular locations on that unpopular list. There are many factors that determine where you will be stationed, your ASFAB score, MOS selection, and a lucky role of the dice, I suppose. But if you were really that worried about it, then you probably wouldn't be contemplating joining the USMC.

The odds are very, very, good that you will go.
Don't join the Marines if your not willing to go to war - stay home and go to school or get a job.
The Marines don't need people who aren't committed to their cause.

If you are that worried, stay home. No offense, but they are the military and you should expect to go to combat as a Marine.
