i have a 1 and a halfe yr old rottie and he rather slobber you to death than bite he is very loud when he does bark but he is the worlds biggest baby all though to answer your question rotts and a few other breeds dobermen and pits were origonally bred to be mean and thank goodness to a smarter and more animal savy idea we humans are now taking proper care of our furry friends there fore making the old no longer the norm but yet the majority of people are not current on their animal facts and are stuck in the past when ALL ROTS and other the other breeds were in fact very mean and dangerous and unfortunatly those ignorant people will teach their children what they believe is true instead of actual facts it basically boils down to uneducated ignorant people that give rots a bad rep

fear of the unknown usually brings on the stereo type. A dog is a dog and it depends on what kind of bloodline they came from and how you raise them. My dog is an Alaskan Husky and according to vet the closest thing you can get to a wolf in the wild. Hes a big baby, but everyone is always intimidated because he looks like a grey wolf.An sometimes people get dogs and think they are so cute as a puppy then stick them out on a chain when they grow up because they are no longer "cute " anymore. some people just dont care they want a big bad dog to chase off intruders .But then they can't understand why the "big bad dog" isnt good with kids.

It's from people who have never owned one, and base all their opinions on media reports of attacks. Or have lived in rough neighborhoods with 'hoods' that own them & train them to be mean. When I worked for vets & owned one in the mid-80's, most people hadn't even met one before & would ask me if it was a Doberman mix! By the mid-90's, people would cross the road when they saw me walking one, or scream & grab their kids when they saw her at the park or pet food store. I have not gotten another one because I am disgusted with people's attitudes. The morons that fight dogs & make them mean to protect their drugs or for a tough image move form one breed to the other as they get blacklisted by city councils, but the breeds image remains tarnished for many years. Just think of the breeds vilified since the 70's: Dobermans, Pittbulls, Rottweilers, and now it seems they are moving on to Cane Corsos & Presa Canarios. Jerks that ruin it for the vast majority of lovers of a breed. Sad.

I had a rotty, she passed away in january. She was a sweet lovable 115 lap dog! I wanted to get another one, but as we traveled/camped , we had to either sign a release to have her in the campground or she wasn't allowed at all.
It is just because there are no bad dogs, just bad owners.
They should of been more concerned about my JRT than my rotty. Also, although motels are allowing more and more dogs stay with their owners, they are starting to put weight limits on the dogs that can stay there. Instead of discriminating against one breed, the weight issue would keep the larger, hence in their eyes, the so called bad breeds.
the list of excluded dogs in campgrounds:
Rotties
Pit bull (even boxers, we found in one place!)
dobermans etc...

i agree, i dont think they should be stereotyped, i havent owned a rottweiler myself but i know that it depends on how the dogs are raised and trained, all dogs are natural guard dogs and i think that some people seem to forget this, dogs protect their family, if the dog is trained properly and the owner reserches the breed before they decide to get one then i dont see any problems, people should just know their breed and read about how they behave, too many dogs these days get abandoned because of their behaviour, the owners are to blame entirely. I know some rottweilers that are brilliant with people and other dogs, they have excellent, firm owners who know how to look after them, diffrent breeds are suited to different people and rottweilers shouldnt be sterotyped. Im sure that people who own rottweilers know about their own dogs and their dogs behaviour, for those who dont know anything about the breed of their own dog they are the people that encourage these labels on certain breeds.
