The Budgie must of been about 8 or 9 years old. How long do budgies live for??

hi your boyfriends bird lived to a good average age.if you want to replace the deceased and could collect in west cumbria i would be happy to donate one because he seems to care.

I think that 8 or 9 is an average lifespan for a budgie. Both budgies that I had in the past were about that when they died. There are exceptions to every rule, and some have been reported to live until about 16.

8 or 9 years seems to be the average life span on a budgie in captivity nowadays, however they can and do live longer, some times up to 20 years. A lot of it has to do with genetics and breeding. Many pet birds, when they start to age, come down with diseases and no one notices because the birds are not taken to a avian vet. You could always have them do an autopsy on the budgie if you really want to know why it died. (And no, I'm not trying to be funny, avian vets can do that.)

that was a good age for a budgie..most only live for about 6 or 7 years.

The books say about 15 years for Budgies
Although mine lasted about 8 years
It died just after my 17th birthday.

books say on average 15 years, but realistically they will last about 7-8 if looked after properly
