I need to go to Portugal next month, and I am taking with me some fragile items that are too big to fit in my luggage.
Does anyone know if there is any way to send it as fragile items? I don't want to send them by post, as it is very expensive (more expensive than the things) I am flying with Iberia Airline.

Thanks!

One thing I have learned is that it is completely useless to mark luggage as fragile. Fragile items don't usually get any special treatment at airports. I once checked in a bag and marked it as fragile and then saw it when it was being brought to the plane... it was at the bottom and had 5 big bags on top of it! Then when I got it back it was torn and covered in oil and looked like it had fallen somewhere. I have never received luggage in a worse state than this fragile item. Boy am I glad I wrapped that stuff into several layers of bubble wrap!

I've also seen fragile music equipment being tossed around at an airport.

My advice... if you possibly can, take it with you in hand luggage. If you can't, then make sure to wrap it REALLY WELL. Bubble wrap is best. If you have a good suitcase with hard sides, then it would be good to place the wrapped items in it and put clothes or something soft around them to keep them in place. I think this is the best way to protect fragile items if you must check them in. Don't count on them being careful with your luggage at the airport, even if you mark it as fragile.

Good luck. I hope your luggage gets to its destination in one piece.

You can put it through the oversize baggage and get them to put fragile stickers on them i've had to do this a couple of times with birthday / christmas presents though that was with Ryanair, i'm sure all airlines are the same.
why dont you check out there website and see or call their helpline number.

You should call ahead to the airline and see if it would be okay to take them in the cabin with you. place them in your carry on luggage. Or if they are a large item, just use that as your carry-on. Most Airlines allow females to have one carry-on bag and one bag, like a purse. So, just take any kind of reading material/things to keep you busy in your purse.

I took a large glass picture weighing 10 kilos on holiday with me as a gift, make sure you wrap it up well with lotsof bubble wrap and write fragile glass all over it.At check in they took my picture and put it safetly in the hold and it was fine.
