If limited to those choice the smith and wesson.
The glock is not a great design. I have been present and seen several guns firing when dropped or when they had the mind to do so. Of course we were trying to prove this with the Glock action. We used primers only in the pistol. I don't feel safe with the way the action is and then there is no external safety and only a trigger safety. The smith and wesson is a good design.
I would rather have a 1911 .45 with a loose action as to not be finiky with loads and the ****** a locked is the safest way to carry that I have seen. My police officer friend carries one and has bent the hammer on it when in ****** and locked and the gun didn't go off. He was slammed by a suspect into a metal doorway of a business. A gunsmith replaced three parts and on life went. The problem with double action pistols is the different trigger pull and how the safeties are different. I also like the Browning Hi-power converted to .40 caliber, British SAS use them or did, I don't know if they changed. It is a classic design and rock solid just like the .45. The .45 is a great round and in a great solid design.
The glock is easier for police to use as it requires less training and stuff, the .1911 requires more training, but officers nowadays aren't required to do as much training with their pistols and stuff so they can fill the suspect with 15 rounds. By the time the suspect is on the ground he has like 50 rounds in him or shot at him. Its ridiculous, the .45 has 7 rounds or more and you should be able to down the suspect(s) with that. It is a great pointing pistol. I have bigger hands for my small frame 5'4" but don't like the glock feel at all. Someone had thiers changed and I liked the feel but feel the 1911 points better for me. I also like my .357 magnum Smith and Wesson old police revolver with a bull barrel with smooth oversize grips, it points well and is an accurate piece of metal.
Hopefully that helps you out, my police officer friend doesn't like the Glock, he feels it recoils too much, it is light, and doesn't like the ones with the compensator because of the night vision aspect. It blows flash up and into your line of sight. But, the glock is a good gun and many love it and use it successfully on the police force. The state police use the Sig Sauer in AZ, that is a great pistol, I don't like the distance of the trigger from the grip and could do with a thinner grip. But it is still a nice gun and what i learned to shoot on, a .40 cal, after my semi-auto .22 handgun.
I like the pointablity, recoil, and cartridge of my 1911 and have heard so many stories of reliability, from my uncle in Vietnam, my friend in the Army that hates the m-9 beretta, and my friend on the police force. There are a lot of other stories out there but I haven't validated them yet. I like to see things or have a reliable source. That is just my opinion. Try out the Smith & Wesson and see what you think, it is mostly on user preference.

if those are my choices, I'll go with the S&W... never been a big fan of Glock... don't like the way the grips fit my hand... otherwise, you can keep them both... I'll stick to my Sig Saur P245... chambered in 45acp. it has the sweetest trigger of any handgun I've ever fired... and it is a double action so I can carry with a full magazine and a round in the chamber safely...
