And, then it makes me feel unaccepted anyway because of this. I feel like I'm carrying a big burden.

What your feeling is how alot of people feel when a loved one comes out to them. They come out of the closet and you go into one so to speak of. I would tell you from experience that you should be proud of your sister. She is the same person to you as she was before she came out. You love her no matter what and you should continue to no matter what people may think. So she is gay, she is your sister. Your sister accepts you and loves you and that is all that should matter, not what other people think. Leave it up to your sister to tell who she wants too about being gay. That will take alot of pressure and uncertainty off of you. After all this is your sister's life too. But I understand how you feel too. You will find that if people don't accept your sister then they just need more time to work through their issues of homophobia. I have sent you a website that will answer some of your questions. This website is PFLAG-Parents Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays. They are a loving and accepting organization. They have alot of reading material they can also send you for free if you email them. You sound like you need a support group and PFLAG is your best group for that even if you just want to email them with questions.

Anybody who would feel differently about you just because your sister is gay isn't worth knowing anyway. The people who care about you will accept you as your are.

Firstly, your sister's sexual orientation is not anybody's business but her own. It is not your "burden" to bear, nor is it anyone's right to judge. Secondly, you can treat it as a indication of someone's character. Anybody who is willing to judge you based on the sexual orientation of your sister is a bigoted fool and is not worth knowing anyway. Time is better spent with non-judgemental people who are open and accepting of you, regardless of what they think of your family.

Depending on where you live, you'd be suprised at how accepting people are of homosexuality. It's gradually getting more acceptable and most people at least hold back their thoughts if they oppose it. I don't think you have anything to worry about for that reason, and also because you aren't the homosexual. In any logical case, you cannot be "blamed" for your sister's sexual orientation.

Bottomline - she is your sister, regardless of how she lives her life. Family is a very strong bond and something you should be proud to have. If people want to judge you because of your sister, then they weren't your friends to begin with.

Here's a no brainer and TWO CHOICES for you:

1. Accept your sister for who she is.
2. Be a schmuck and turn your back on family.

It was a very easy choice for me to make ... let's see if you complicate things more than they should be.

If you love her, you will accept her. Plain and simple. Who cares what other people think? I think you need not worry about what others might think, and build a stronger relationship with your sister. Family is Family!!

Good luck!!

When people find out, you will find out who your true friends are. And hold your head up high!!!!! Be proud of your sister and love her. And you will find out that every family has secrets, not just yours. It's up to you if you want to tell your secrets, or keep them to yourself. It is nobody's business if your sister is gay.

get over it, your sisters lifestyle is her choice and should not have a thing to do with you. your being selfish to use your sisters choice to say it is why people would not except you. if they are your friends and true friends it should have nothing to do with you.
