Depends on what state you live in but so many have assistance for the blind or going blind. Research it or have someone look up the phone numbers for you. They often help with items you need to help you adjust. (tapping canes, large number books or clocks, assistance dogs, and much much more. For free.) They pay for your doctor's appointments that have to do with your eyes. They offer classes on how to live in your own household going blind. It is a school I think that goes on for a month or so. They teach you to be very independent. They reteach you how to cook and clean and all that stuff. Come to your house and adjust anything from tables to cooking utensils to help you get around better. So you don't have to rely on others. They will even help you get a job. It is a bit of a process with all the paperwork and phone calls but very worth it because they pay for everything. So take advantage of it because you need it and they are more than happy to help you. I live in Texas and that is what the program here offers. Hope yours is just as good. Much luck hun.

Contact your local society for the blind and find out your options.
Start learning braille.
Practise moving about your home with your eyes shut or the lights out.
Make contact with people who are blind and talk to them - they can give you the best sort of advice - that of personal experience.
Losing your sight does not mean you lose your Independence, it means adapting to having one less sense.
I have a family friend who is blind and he copes just fine. He goes shopping, tramping on holiday by himself, camping, music festivals. He plays the banjo and the guitar - both learned after he lost his sight. He says you get used to having bruised shins and you learn to hate coffee tables.
