I think Christmas has become very commercialised and is less about the birth of our saviour Jesus Christ and more about Santa Claus, snowmen and presents. Children only think of the presents they will get (the latest computer game etc) and do not know the true meaning of Christmas. And instead of Christmas people are saying Chrimbo, what has Chrimbo got to do with Jesus Christ?

Chrimbo is a shortened version of Christmas and is slang for Christmas. Where is the Christ in Chrimbo that is all I can say!

I totally agree with you. Me and my partner have agreed that we will be telling our daughter (16 months at the moment) when she is older about St Nicholas and what he did, but that the myth of Father Christmas as it stands today is untrue, apart from the fact that we want her to know the true meaning of Christmas, I don't understand why we all lie to our children and then tell them off for doing it later on in life. Then we wonder why they think they can do the same things as us in other areas?? Come on people, get back to the meaning of Christmas, Jesus was born, and he saved us all, so lets celebrate that instead!!!

A good majority of people who celebrate Christmas are two faced hypocrites. They never go to church, pray or do good to others. Jesus is not even mentioned at Christmas in many homes, and these days it is all about the latest CD or computer toy. Instead of spending all that money on gifts and gluttonous food we ought to think about the meaning of Christmas. Spread a little bit of happiness to the starving kids who die on Christmas day.
Do they know it's Christmas time at all?

Yes, I do think it is too commercialized especially in the retail market....I noticed Christmas decorations in stores a few weeks after Labor Day! I think this contributes to children in a bad way because they see all these things so early and feel that the reason for this is all about the toys, Xbox, Elmo etc.!!
My husband and I get our children a few gifts each at Christmas, we don't get each other gifts on Christmas, but we celebrate the birth of Jesus all month long by sharing stories of His birth to our children, listening to wonderful music, and giving to others at this time.
On our children's birthday, that is when we give them their big gifts.
My children love the way we do this because they understand what the true meaning of Christmas is, and it is still a special and awesome time for all of us.

On the other hand the same people who get upset about the commercialism at xmas are the same ones who accuse stores of "taking the Christ out of Xmas" if the employees wish them a Happy Holidays instead of Merry Xmas.

You can have one or the other, but not both.

Never heard of Chrimbo, but at my house we have a birthday party for Jesus. Now I know someone is gonna say that Jesus wasn't born on Dec. 25 and they are probably right but I use any excuse I can find to throw a party for Jesus.

Christmas can become too Commercialized if WE let it. Children need to be told and reminded about the TRUE meaning of Christmas by US, their parents and relatives. We are responsible for doing this... . . .no one else.
