I personally think my fellow countrymen are really reserved about their affection but when it comes to criticizing others, they unleash without any hesitation. What's your take on this? I would prefer my fellow Singaporeans to answer this question.

Education is the key. Time and again this had been the root source of Singaporeans' problems.

Since young, they were taught to accept what the teachers say and the govt is always right. Of course one day they would start to know better and becomes unhappy; but alas, the courage to challenge the status quo had either diminished, or being suppressed by an even stronger trait: FEAR.

Yes, Singaporeans generally live in fear; they remain at very low rug of the Maslow's hierachy of needs. Everyday, they worry for employment, daily necessities, well-being of loved ones, medical fees, security, etc. Yes, they do live in fear EVERYDAY, so much so that they are unable to proceed up the hierachy for better attainment. They are akin handicaps without both arms and legs.

Now further to that, they may be handicapped but they still have a mouth! And the unhappiness and resentment within is still raging! So what happens? They turned into a bunch of whiners, complaining about daily itsy-bitsy issues, becoming crude, loud-mouthed pricks. The desire to help themselves, to break free, is burning inside, but there is nothing they can do.

As such, this explains why Singaporeans have no interest to admire and/or praise others, no time to smell the flowers in their life journey, but just being cranky and skeptical about everything. Everything is not good enough, and nothing seemed to work for them, because their minds are helplessly dreaming about breaking free. "I WANT, I WANT!! BUT I CANNOT..."

Personally I do agree with you on some area. If you have been observant enough I don't think that we are reserved about our affection but when it come to critizing, Singaporean really unleash themselves without hesitation.
We have been saying it is caused by the stress that is present in our fast paced environment which I don't agree coz sometimes even when Singaprean is on oversea, they also criticize others. Basically I believed it is more of our society culture and behaviour that result in such behaviour

Singapore is a fast pace society. Singaporean need to keep working to survive under this Pay And Pay (PAP) Government. But, generally the Singaporean I met are not rude, just they are more reserved and stressful.
