It may affect health, mainly in that it is a flavor enhancer and is liable to make people eat more of unhealthy (otherwise bland) foods. It has an addictive effect. You can read about this here -> http://www.mynewsletterbuilder.com/home/published.php?action=view&newsletter_id=1409568784

Another problem is that it is potentially a neurotoxin. MSG crosses the brain barrier and could overexcite brain cells causing their death. Most people have enough natural defenses (through anti-oxidants, etc...) to tolerate small amount of MSG (amount used in foods) without any noticeable effects in the short-term. A small minority react badly to even small amounts of MSG, experiencing immediate symptoms such as intense headache, heart palipitations, etc...

It's not made from baby bones, but from corn typically (although it could be made from many sources of protein). It is a processed free from version of l-glutamic acid or glutamate. L-glutamic acid or glutamate are naturally occuring amino acids which are in practically all food and are harmless (even to those sensitive to msg). It's when it's processed into ***FREE*** glutamate/glutamic aid that it's potentially harmful. MSG is only one name for ingredients containing processed free glutamic acid. Anything containing hydrolzyed or autolyzed protein is likely to contain some. You can get an idea of ingredients containing processed glutamic acid at http://www.truthinlabeling.org/hiddensources.html Just be aware that 'some' of the sources contain such minute amounts that they would only affect the most sensitive individuals (not most people). MSG is one of the most concentrated forms of free glutamic acid.

I've never heard of MSG being used a poison for dogs and cats. It's probably not good for them (in large amounts), but I highly doubt it's toxic enough to be used as an effective poison. Probably an urban legend (along with it being made from "baby bones") meant to scare.

For humans it hasn't been universally proven as harmful, although anecdotal evidence and animal studies leaves much suspicion. Curiously in Japan (where msg originated) there is little complaint of the symptoms expressed elsewhere. Possibly due to a more protective diet including drinking lots of tea. Tea contains l-theanine, an amino acid that competes with glutamate and therefore may protect from the possibility of an MSG induced excitotoxin effect. Of course this is purely speculation.

many all human beings is gentle to MSG and characteristic gruesome indicators in the event that they consume it, many times called "chinese language eating place Syndrome." this would be a bothersome reaction yet infrequently risky.
