You don't have to smoke at all to get lung cancer.

My grandmother smoked until she was 96 and never got it; My old boss never smoked and died of lung cancer at 47.

You can get lung cancer if you don't smoke. Smoking just increases your chances of getting lung cancer. If you smoked for a year and now do not. Then yes your chances of getting lung cancer are more likely higher then someone who has never smoked. Another thing you need to think about. Has there been anyone in your family with lung cancer? Because this also increases your chances.

Depends on how many cigarettes you smoke on a daily basis. But even smoking for 6 months can cause lung cancer. My friend's aunt was recent diagnosed with lung cancer due to smoke inhalation. She had tried one cigarette in her teens, she never smoked other than that one time and her husband never smoked and they did allowing smoking in their house when guests are over. She got cancer from the 2nd hand smoke she was exposed to at clubs, work, restuarants and friend's houses. She is terminally ill and have 3-6 months to live. So even non-smokers can get lung cancer from inhaling smoke that's around them.

You may get lung cancer regardless of smoking, as others have already stated.
You can't really say that smoking causes lung cancer; you can only say it increases the risk of getting it.
You should consider to stop smoking, regardless of your risk of lung cancer, because quite frankly, smoking increases the risk of a zillion other, not less severe diseases (chronic bronchitis, kidney cancer, bladder cancer, pancreatitis, pancreatic cancer, stomach ulcer, atherosclerosis, myocardial infarction, to name but a few)

You can. There is no formula for how long you must smoke to get a disease. But your chances go up with each cigarette.
