Surely it's in everyone's interest to have a referendum whether you are a Europhile or Eurohater.
Do you think your country's future is worth a few minutes of your time>

Glelndred - that's the point - speakout.co.uk (if they get enough support could FORCE the government to have one.

Joseph - the people can always force the government to do what they want - Don't you remember the Poll Tax.
Don't be a defeatist - log on to speakout.co.uk. What can you lose?

Social S Lady - you are wrong. Mrs Thatcher was brought down by the Poll Tax demonstrations. The country belongs to US, the people, not to Tony Blair & Co.
Just take a moment to look at the website - you never know what big things us little people can do until we try.

I do not think we shall have one. Legally Tony Blair cannot be made to have a referendum. We are a democratic country, and we live in a Kingdom where the head of state is the Queen. We elect members of Parliament from our choice party and they are sent to the palace of Westminster by us, to govern the country on our behalf. That is where our say in how to run the country ends. We are not a republic, they have referendums, not democracies. The 1975 referendum was a "one off" we were told there would never be another. If you must blame some one then it must be all the voters who said "oui" in 1975.

This or any other government will not offer a referendum on Europe. If you think civil servants mps euro mps eurocrats and beaurocrats are stupid enough to allow the public to derail their own personal little gravy trains you are dreaming.Ask those two great stalwarts of the anti europe labour movement[at the last referendum]a big hand for Neil and Glenys Kinnock ,cant get elected so take the silver.

Yes,you are absolutely right!!! Thank you fatface for the information. I have already been to the site some while ago. Many of us have been complaining about the direction the country is going. Here is a chance to,at least try,to show our discontent. The European Union is largely responsible for much of the countries dilemma,so those who have been shouting the loudest.........here's your chance to help !!!!

It would be nice to have a democratic choice in issues as these but I doubt the western government have the stomach for it!
