No, Germans won't allow it.

Take the German citizenship, it is much easier to travel around on a German passport and he won't have to pay US taxes all of his life if he is German. If he decides later in life to switch to a US passport it will be easy to do.

Seriously - read about the crazy US tax law before you even think about giving him a US passport. I moved away from the US 15 years ago, and still write my annual check to the IRS AS WELL AS pay in the country where I live, and it is really B.S., but unfortunately its the law. The US imposes its laws on citizens abroad.

Working in Germany is much better than in the US anyway - I've been working for a German company for 15 years and will never go back to an American one. The EU will probably also take over the USA economically in the next 10 -20 years anyway, so it will be beneficial to have a passport from an EU country.

danskepj: the US government does, but the German government doesn't!

No. Germany is between the main restrictive countries in the international as regards twin citizenship. German citizenship in effortless terms passes at beginning to those that've a minimum of one German ascertain, and the place you're born has no connection to it in any respect. so which you're actually not a German citizen by utilising beginning even nonetheless you have been born in the rustic, and the only thank you to benefit German citizenship now's to stay there long sufficient to have the potential to be naturalised - 8 years. after which you will in all threat would desire to offer up your US citizenship. there are in effortless terms some exceptions to this. The regulation became replaced in 1990 so as that folk born in Germany to non-German mom and dad who've lived there for 8 years with everlasting place of residing prestige for 3 years are German voters, yet they might desire to coach effectively to maintain that citizenship earlier the age of 23. in the event that they do this, they lose the different citizenship they have. in the event that they like to maintain twin citizenship, they might desire to coach earlier the age of 21. (This became executed because of the fact Germany has a rather good variety of Turkish "concentrated visitor workers" who below the previous regulation would desire to never be German in spite of the undeniable fact that long or for what proportion generations that they had lived there, without getting in direction of the naturalisation technique.) voters of different ecu countries are allowed to be twin voters with Germany, and there are some treaties in place with different countries that permit for twin citizenship with those countries. I doubt that there is one between Germany and the u . s . because of the fact the u . s . itself isn't keen on twin citizenship. it is likewise a possibility to get permission from the German government to hold twin citizenship, and that's extremely many times granted, yet you will desire to particularly practice for it. although, you nevertheless would desire to stay there for 8 years and teach your fluency in the German language to even get to this degree.
