My partner thinks he could get one to be as obedient as a dog and it would never catch native animals.

It both possible and impossible... for once they are wild animals and second they aren't that obedient as dogs are since dogs are social animals and has a so-called dominant male which they are loyal to and in that case that would be the owner. On the other hand however foxes are solitary and rather live alone they have the same temperament as cats which they dont rely on their owners and it would take Extra and a very Extra amount of patience to train one but however they will resort back to their wild nature later on.

It is possible to train foxes, but as with all wild animals once the animal becomes mature it will resort back to it's wild nature. I do not believe that I would trust a 'trained' fox in the hen house. Foxes are beautiful animals that are best suited for the wild.

It is possible if you get it before it's eyes are open and bottle feed it. But it is going to always have a wild streak in it. And if not careful will turn on you. Won't let it around small children either.
Foxes are also bad about getting rabies another thing to think about. And like any dog you pen them up it will just make them mean.
A good example of what happens is the numerous cases of hybrid wolves turning on their owners or owner's kids. And they are half dog.
