The GTR has cult Status in Japan. When they were Designing the first GTR they were producing the car to fit with Group A homologation rules. They had to produce 500 examples of the race car in order to comply with the rules. Nissan looked at the rules and built what they considered to be the best possible car within them. The car did so well it was banned from racing in a lot of countries because it never seemed to lose.

The speeds are possible with modification. I used to have an R32 GTR ( the first model) and that, with a few "minor" modifications, produced 438KW at the wheels, that equates to about 587 horsepower at the wheels. I have seen examples pushing well in excess of 600KW. Even in stock form they are really quick point to point cars. The R33 GTR was the first large scale production car to break 8 minutes for a full lap around the Nurburgring track in Germany. The HKS Skyline from the HKS factory in Japan can run the quarter mile in mid to high 6 second passes.

The quality of High performance cars today is in large part due to the GTR's performance forcing them to do better to justify their prices. The ATESSA all wheel drive system is still today one of the most advanced on the planet. GTR's give you porsche, and Ferrari speed for less than half the cost. A bit of a people's champ really.

All wheel drive Skyline GT-R's really haul the mail. And a engine that allows maxium boost pressure from the twin turbos. Need for speed has made people go nuts and want one of these 15 to 20 year old right hand drive cars to drive in america. And actually the new 350Z Nissan makes is a better safer car. And legal too. With upgrades to motor wheels and suspension faster too.

The big whoop is that the Skyline GTR is a rarer sight in the US than a Lamborghini. Also the fact that the Skyline can be made into a 1,000 whp car.

It's best known for the easily modded engine (RB26DETT), it's ATTESSA all wheel drive, and it's Super HICAS 4 wheel steering.

They can easily be made into massive whp cars and there 4wd they handle great with few modifications and are unique, how many skylines do you see driving down the road, now compare that to a honda, exactly honda is pretty f'ing boring compared to the skyline. They can be GREAT cars if you have the money, and now its becoming harder and harder to find unmolested skylines in the states.

Probably the sound of air exitting from the turbo wastegate. When a turbo is providing boost, and the driver suddenly pulls the foot off the accelerator, the excess pressure is vented from the wastegate, making a 'woosh' or 'woop' sound
