Yes u r right sometimes this question strikes our minds........but there is only one way to satisfy that God is eternal, He was there before and He ,ll he there always...infact u have no other choice to believe.because its so obvious that such great universe doen't go on its own an someone there is controlling it, and He is God.

"Who made God?"
To one who examines the evidence, there can be no doubt that God exists. Every building has a builder. Everything made has a maker. The fact of the existence of the Creator is axiomatic (self-evident). That’s why the Bible says, "The fool has said in his heart, ‘There is no God’" (Psalm 14:1). The professing atheist denies the common sense given to him by God, and defends his belief by thinking that the question "Who made God?" can’t be answered. This, he thinks, gives him license to deny the existence of God.
The question of who made God can be answered by simply looking at space and asking, "Does space have an end?" Obviously, it doesn’t. If there is a brick wall with "The End" written on it, the question arises, "What is behind the brick wall?" Strain the mind though it may, we have to believe (have faith) that space has no beginning and no end. The same applies with God. He has no beginning and no end. He is eternal.
The Bible also informs us that time is a dimension that God created, into which man was subjected. It even tells us that one day time will no longer exist. That will be called "eternity." God Himself dwells outside of the dimension He created (2 Timothy 1:9, Titus 1:2). He dwells in eternity and is not subject to time. God spoke history before it came into being. He can move through time as a man flips through a history book.
Because we live in the dimension of time, logic and reason demand that everything must have a beginning and an end. We can understand the concept of God’s eternal nature the same way we understand the concept of space having no beginning and end—by faith. We simply have to believe they are so, even though such thoughts put a strain on our distinctly insufficient cerebrums.

Hey there, Big Nux.... Glad you asked.... and I am pleased that you have a form of faith about you...... Let no one tell you what you cannot believe!!!
The problem is not that we are trying to understand what God is, it is in trying to determine a time for God.....
God had no time, He was already here..... If everything about you is created, you can say, it had a starting point..... But, no one ever asked when was oxygen created?.....
No one ever asks that question because they know oxygen has no time...... a person can chose to believe it exists because it is proven to be there... though we do not see it......
The opposite can be said of a mountain... whereby it is come by one stone at a time, and throughout the time since it has been flat, builds up into something magnificent. A structure which is obscure in shape and an obstacle in the way of clear direction.
God, like oxygen, cannot be seen, and is without time... and as God is life, every man must take a breath to live but is not required to see it........ Man is like unto the mountain which is given to time, is easy to see, and is
an obstacle by means of opinion......
your sister,
Ginger

It's not an ignorant question. If anything, I'd call it a Western question, hee. Put the same question up to those raised in Eastern thought and society and you'll get some odd looks. The view of time as linear, with a beginning point and an end point and nothing lasting forever is Western. Most Eastern schools of thought subscribe to cyclical time--this has all always been here, it will all always be here, and therefore the idea of a "creator" of all of it is kind of silly.
It's a very difficult concept for Western minds to work around, but it's another perfectly valid viewpoint, and one that to me makes a lot more sense.

The old phrase that nothing last forever was introduced by man..God almighty is infinitely greater than man..His word, the bible, says he is the alpha and omega(the beginning and the end) so he is the only one that truly last forever.Your question is not ignorant it is always nice to see people out there that are genuinely curious about creation and God and this universe that we are born in to..Read the bible to attempt to satisfy you new found beliefs I think it will help you get a understanding of God..

I think we'll find a natural explanation for the universe and everything in it and of it eventually. We're working on it. As someone who studies the universe for a living, I don't feel the need to bring some god into the equation. And I know more about the universe than most people.

God is immortal and this means God lives forever. The purpose of Jesus Christ saving us is to give us eternal life ie to live forever like and with God.
It is true that without God nothing lasts forever but with God all good things last forever.

Without going into specifics what you're talking about is "cause and effect". Everything must have a cause, we're here because of our parents, they're here because, etc, etc, etc. However, if you go back far enough there must be an original cause - that is God.

God is the Alpha and Omega ..... the first and the last..... nothing came before him...... he will have no end therefore nothing can come after him.
Those who say nothing lasts forever.... have no concept of what eternity is..... God is forever

The Bible state that nothing came before Him, and yes we are to believe that. I can understand your curiosity and when he returns you will know the answer to that question.
As for creation? come on that the entire world as we know it developed from an explosion or an amoeba is extreamly silly in itself. For their sake, OK who made the amoeba? who made the particles that caused the explosion? nothing comes from nothing
God Bless
