My idea comes right from the book The Runaway Jury:

Somewhere inconspicuous, where it won't be found and can see the door (or the area near the door), position a video camera, and set it on the longest record setting. Then review it when you get home. This way, not only do you have confirmed evidence that someone broke in, you actually know who did it.

Good luck.

All of these are good ideas, and the motion cam idea takes the cake. Also, ask to have your locks changed soon, the apt people have to do it with a good reason, cause if not, they could be implied in any police report as not facilitated enough security to your apt. it is the law in my state. even if its not the law there, I would still get em changed anyway.

I do not want to frighten you but the answer is "yes," Nobody will believe you. If you can rent spy equipment do that. Maybe look in yellow pages for private detectives and call a couple of them. Maybe they will help you find ways. This happens a lot more than people want to admit.

It's very possible that someone else could have a key to your apartment. Put a piece of tape or hair across the door when you leave and then you will know if it has been opened in your absense.

Who knows....could even be the landlord.....most of them possess a key.
How about a hidden camera.....if this idea is too expensive you can try the paper method.......they open the door and it drops to the floor......if you want to catch them in the act proof is better with the camera. Good luck!
