My boyfriend is a couple years older than I am (but I am 18, so no worries.), and him and I are so much into each other. Recently at a party, a couple of his friends thought it was pretty kool at how mature I acted, but said I looked a bit young.
So, good to know I've got the mature part down (comes with years of having to do a lot of things by myself), but I am wondering -
is there any way I can 'appear' to look older? Such as dressing in certain types of clothing or hairstyles?
Don't get me wrong, my boyfriend loves how I am, but I would like to appear not exactly like I just got out of highschool when we go to his buddies houses' and they're 25.

well for starters...enjoy looking young while it lasts...although you just may always have a young look about you.
I'm 29, but most ppl think I'm 22-23ish. * LOVE IT now, hated it at 18 because i looked 15! lmao not fun*
my husband is older too, so i understand how ya feel. as if everyone thinks your a stupid kid or something...
to this day some of his "new" friends treat me like that till they get to know me.

try dressing a bit older, but still sexy and classy.
leave the girly girly clothes at home when you go out, and opt for something a bit more classy.
slacks instead of jeans
blouses or really nice tops instead of T-shirts
fix your hair up in something other than a ponytail.
stick to neutral colored makeup with either smokey eyes, or bright lips *not at the same time...one or the other*

but of course....keep the jeans and T-shirts for when you and your BF spend time out together.

I'm in a slightly similar situation-- I'm 19 and my boyfriend is 25. Plus one of my close friends is going through the same thing. Don't wear anything you purchased from the juniors department. If it looks like a 16 year old cheerleader would wear it than lose it. I'm not sure what type of makeup you wear, but you should try to look as natural as possible (that doesn't mean no makeup, it just means stick with more natural eye shadows and lipsticks/glosses, etc). In terms of clothing colors, try to stick with earth tones. You can never go wrong there. Sometimes pastels will make you look like a little kid (particularly pink). You should also take note of what his friends' girlfriends are wearing and then wear something similar. Also, limit the costume jewelery and try not to wear sneakers. As far as hairstyles go, you should splurge on a super nice salon and explain your dilemma to the stylist. They're paid to know how to do that. You should try asking the advice of any cousins, sisters, friends, etc too. They can probably help you more since they know you're style. Or, if that isn't really an option, go to Windstorm and ask them. You don't have to buy everything they suggest, but it will give you a good idea of the type of stuff to wear. Again, they are paid to do that kind of thing. Good luck!

Just try to talk more to his buddies...and hang out with the oldies. Dressing up with really nice and well-cut clothes does articulate your age. Try to go shopping and look at adults, and sort of try to do a copy of what they wear and look at how poised they are. Girls of age 18 usually have a long striaght cut hair...try to add curls..curls are said to add more age to your looks. Wear more dresser tops that enhances your breast. Go shopping where many adults frequent...and get things from there. Something which doesn't look trashy but presetable enough to make you appear older. Carry really nice hangbags...big ones at that...makes you appear older too. Trust me...Im only 16...people sometimes mistake me for a 21 year old. It does help that I have 4 older sisters. Try to invest in branded stuffs, makes you look powerful and you know like as if you working in a company with good pay...so people usually connect that with your age; you're much older than you really are. Hope this helps...but really, there's nothing much to do.

You can appear a bit older and classy if you wear your hair up. Try wearing flat shoes and cover more skin. You may not want to do all 3 at the same time. Pay close attention to the style of clothing you wear. Don't wear 16 year old styles.

I think maybe you want to look more sophisticated or worldly, and not older. I'm 25, I look maybe about 20 or 21, and to me, that is KICK-***!

Anyway, I know nearly nothing about fashion or hair styling, so all I can say is this: look through some magazines and when you see a look, try it out. And stay looking young! It's a good thing you'll really learn to appreciate later on! Good luck & rock on!

Your boyfriend is happy and you should be too. Don't worry about what those guys say as long as you both are happy. It sounds like you conduct yourself in a very mature manner and that will influence a lot of people by itself.

It's not in the looks sister. And if they've already picked up on the fact that you talk and carry yourself in a mature manner they couldn't care less about you looking older. Besides, like you said your boyfriend digs you just the way you are. You should be happy about that and you should be happy with yourself.

wearing dull coloured clothing makes you look older as well as darker eyeshadow try doing smokey eyes, showing a little bit of boob doesnt do any harm either, but you should be happy you look young if they think your mature than that is all that matters, :)

That she looks a bit young is a compliment believe it or not.
Feel blessed that you do look young.. Trust me, you'll LOVE it in a few yrs.
If you overdo your make-up it can make you look fake and older..lots older.. or trampy.
Your happy, your boyfriends happy, thats all that matters.

If your hair is in a longer style that will make you look younger.

And if you wear really trendy clothes, that will also make you look young; try not to shop at Hollister and A&F type stores, but instead go for the more generic, larger departmentt stores. Also, shop in the Women's sections not the Junior sections.
