I can't imagine wearing shoes for such an extended period of time is good for their feet. My kids only wear shoes when out in public.

Quality, supportive tennis shoes are the best thing for your feet. If your kids are always taking them off, they are either imitating other kids' actions or they are uncomfortable because they don't have REALLY GOOD SHOES. The idea of buying light, slim-looking shoes for our children doesn't work. They need BIG shoes with padding and shock absorption. Their feet will be more comfortable than ever before, they will also be protected from injuries, and as long as the materials are right, their feet will stay cool.
Your kids should wear premium quality, padded, supportive tennis shoes. My daughter picked out Nike Air Jordan Flight 45 high top basketball shoes, and she absolutely loves them. She wears them all day long and has to be TOLD to take them off. Now before I bought her such big, supportive shoes, she would always take shoes off whenever she could-------but not anymore!
I'm the same way. I wear high top basketball shoes about 15 to 16 hours a day. You would think feet would suffocate in such large shoes, but I am MUCH more comfortable with my shoes on. It's the lower grade shoes and the little slim shoes that make life miserable for your feet.

Shoes? I cant even get my 8 yr old to keep socks on let alone shoes. As soon as she gets home shoes come off and socks go flying. But seriously it is not healthy for young children to wear shoes for that long of a time. Kids feet are constantly growing and just like adults their feet need to breathe and stretch. Keeping them confined all day in shoes can lead to foot fungus, ingrown toenails, calluses, bunions, hammertoes, heal spurs and other painful foot problems. Kids and adults for that matter should really only wear shoes when necessary.

My child almost never wears shoes and in fact is actually currently going through (what I hope is just a phase!) a period where he doesn't want to wear them at all. It's getting cold so I hope he decides to like shoes again soon! :-)
Kids feet develop best BAREFOOT. Anyone interested in shoes that are the next best thing to barefoot should check out SoftStar Shoes out of Oregon. They are on the web.

Sorry I have to agree with your daycare. Try buying quality shoes instead of plastic cheap ones, and make sure she is wearing 100% cotton socks. I'd rather my child have sweaty feet than take the chance of stepping on something or not having sure footing in a fire or other emergency.

I have 2 kids under the age of 3. BOTH of them hate shoes. They'll wear them when we go to town but my daughter takes them off EVERY SINGLE time we get back into the car to drive to the next store or something. And my son screams the second we get back home cause he wants his shoes off, but remains perfectly calm when in town. Strange thing is, he likes them off because he can walk much more balanced with them off. Is the parent making these kids wear them all day, or are the kids doing it on their own behalf?

My daughter wore (wears) shoes usually just to school(now work/college). At home we (me too) are barefooted. I've never really had much use for shoes myself. Own only 4 pairs of "regular" shes, a pair of "dressy" loafers, two pairs of sneakers, and a pair of sandals the rest are all flip flops for when I have to go to the store or something like that. Otherwise we are sans shoes...

I hate wearing shoes. I wear them when I am required to (work, college, etc) but if I can get away with flip flops or nothing, I will.
My boyfriend, however, is quite different. He wears his shoes almost always. Unless he is in the shower or in bed, he always has them on. He is 25 and been doingit all his life. I think it is a matter or personal preference.
