I have signed up to donate blood twice in the past, but I have never donated. The 1st time, I had the fever the day of donation *whew*. The 2nd time, I had gone through all the procedures until they started to put the needle in my arm. At the time i was extremely nervous and shaking from nervousness. I was sooo scared, I tried to calm down, but i couldn't. So when they put the needle in my arm, seconds later, before any blood could be taken out, the needle popped out. When they asked if they could use my other arm instead to draw blood from. I couldn't handle it and I left.

Now i am being asked to donate blood again... should i do it? I want to save people's lives, but fear dwells in me. i don't know what to do.

If you are afraid of doing so, don't do it.
Your history is not a bad history, you are just afraid.
Bad history is one in which you fainted after you donate blood.
I donated blood for 6 times now, but I still dare not look at the needle.
When they come to take my blood, my close my eyes.
It does not hurt much when I close my eyes.
The one important thing is the technician or doctor who take out the blood must be very skillful, if not so,it's very painful.
In one time, they pierce me with that big needle for 4 times! But I'm happy that my blood can save one life. It only hurts for a day and it's over.
My advice is:
if u are afraid to donate, DON'T .
if you are only afraid of needle, CLOSE YOUR EYES & RELAX.
As for the interval for blood donation,it's best to donate once in 4 months.
If not your haemoglobin is not enough and your blood is practically has no effect for the patient.

In my opinion I don't think you should donate blood if you've had such a bad past experience. If you can't get over your fear of donating then I don't think you would be very comfortable donating again. You'll just keep on associating a bad past experience each time you try to donate when you're not over your fear yet. Also you shouldn't do it if you feel that you are being pushed to do so. You have to want to do it. I think you should wait until you're comfortable with needles and donating blood in the future. However it's all up to you. You don't have to take my word for it.

in the uk, only 5 % of the population that could ACTUALLY give blood, do. that is such a small amount to supply all the other people who actually might need a transfusion. If you've had a bad experience before, go back the next time, and say. They might have it on file that you felt how you felt. I felt like that the first time, but still gave, then when i went again last week, they were more considerate and gentle. Dont worry. what your are doing is possibly going to save somones life. However if you feel you can't, try not to feel guilty and leave it for a while. you can always go back whenever you feel you might feel better for it.

hey comeon , its a fun to donate blood believe me, just imagine ur blood will be running in some one else veins.......isnt it thrilling??
Well just relax n go for it, its not harmful there will be pain only with the insertion of needle n then it ,ll go on , i have donated thrice during my thrid year n fourth year of medical school, and i was so happy , because first time i donated it for a patient who was road traffic accident victom, second and third to thalasemics, but the joy i cant explain, u feel realy cool that you have done something good, well you ,ll feel important :P
get out of this fear, its nothing, it wont harm u , just prepare yourself for one needle prick and i m sure u are brave enough to tolerate a needle prick for once, n just close your eyes and think that your blood is that precious that it ,is going to help someone out there.

Good luck :)

IMO if it's been that bad of an experience for you ....... skip it. Why not find another way to contribute to society and just do something random for someone? If you are that nervous and afraid of needles, it's just not worth putting yourself through.
