Don't think this sounds cold until you know the circumstances...
I recently found out someone I previously dated has 3 suspensions against his drivers license. He is still driving and I would be elated to see him get caught.
I dated this guy only for a short while. After the fact, I found out he was into crack and drinks heavily. Myself, I only drink on occasion. One evening while were out, I realized multiple personalitiesand changes at the drop of a hat. We were having what I thought was a great evening until we were walking to our vehicle and out of nowhere he sucker punched me. (we never even had the slightest argument or altercation) I am all of 110 pounds, he is 260 built and fit. I now I have to have surgery due to an injury he caused me.
I am really adamant about turning him, but will I remain anonymous?

No, I don't want compensation for my injuries or surgery.... I want nothing to do with him. (No courts involved!)
But when I found out he has 3 suspensions against his license, I want to turn him in for it.
I just want to know if I will remain anonymous if I do.

You can remain anonymous but it's out of your hands after that. Tell the cops you are scared of him and you refuse to give your name. If they demand it, then leave/hang up.

I found this:
In another case, we concluded that a stop comported with the Fourth Amendment when the police department received an anonymous tip identifying the location of a suspended driver who was operating a motor vehicle and verified the suspension, after which an officer observed the suspended driver's vehicle on a public way and stopped the vehicle. State v. Lawton, 581 A.2d 793, 793-95 (Me. 1990).

Well, for driving while suspened, you may remain anonymous. For anything else, probably not if you actually want the guy to go to jail. Because if the guy finds out that the info from the cops is coming from an anonymous tipster, he can plead not guilty and either (a) get the prosecutor to cajole you into testifying or (b) not have any witnesses against him and get the case dismissed.
You may give a tip anonymously, but cops may or may not do anything about that. And they'd have to investigate more.

Why would you want to remain anonymous? Make photos of your injuries, doctor's report, and go to the police to file a police report and get him arrested. Then go to court and get the restraining order against him. He will pay for your injuries and he will go to jail for punching you. If you will not proceed with the action against him, he will keep punching you. Go to the police.

no, a person has the right to know their accuser, especially if it goes to court and you have to testify. But dont let that stop you. If he is in jail, there isnt much he can do. you could also get a restraining order if you are afraid of him, especially if he has hurt you.

You may, or may not. Once I called in a neighbor upstairs and asked to remain annonymous. When the guy didn't open the door, the stupid @$$ cops came to mine, and asked :"did you just call? He's not there!"

Did this happen 20 minutes ago? Cause the longer u wait the weaker your case becomes. What do you really want him to be punished for is more the question I think.
