Both country areas and city areas who have rainwater tanks really need a good filtration system... Imagine a bird - god forbid - took a poo on a roof...
Or a speck of dust was to land on a roof - somewhere...
Or the neighbours wattle tree to shed some of its prongs that induce pungent foul smelling water...
A waft of diesel smog to gather in a greasy pool over in the corner guttering...
I personally prefer to drink the chemicals in our tap water to magpie/seagul ****!!! But each to their own I guess...

Too much lead etc comes off the roof
you would have to get some special thing to take all the chemicals out before you drink the water

They do, in a way.. They are called reservoirs, aka. LAKES. All water is rain water but comunities develope co-operatives in order to get cleaner water for everyone for less. A townie , if he wanted to, could get a rain barrel and dip from it if he wanted to, but his water supply would be contaminated more by airborne contageon and chemicals, and it would be unreliable.
