Matthew 16:28, Rev. 22:20

Jesus preached that he would come again in the same generation of men, less than a hundred years. "Surely, I come quickly."

Question: How did this religion survive? "Quickly?" 2,000 years is not quickly by anyone's definition.

The Bible also said that the Gospel was to be spread through out the world; that there would be a falling away first. It has taken time until these things could be accomplished.

First of all, Jesus never preached that he would come again during the lifetime of those that heard him. He expressly said, "Of that day and hour knows no man, not the angels of heaven, not even the Son, but the Father only (Matthew 24:36; Mark 13:32)" What Jesus spoke of was his Kingdom (the church) being established in the generation of those that heard him. Also, remember how God views time (2 Peter 3:8). Time is insignificant to an eternal being. Jesus did not lie about anything that he said. He fulfilled every promise that he made, except one, his return. That is still future. How future??? We don't know. No one knows the day. However, God is patient, allowing everyone enough time to hear his gospel and get themselves right with him. Once he returns, it will be too late to receive salvation in his name for time will be no more and judgment will begin.
