He's marking where another dog already has- it may not be recent but he's reclaiming his territory (which is new, so he IS insecure)....leave whatever you discilpline him with right on the spot- eg rolled up newspaper, broom-whatever it is he knows means he's in trouble; i've found that it's an amazing deterrant- failing that, make sure he gets a morning walk, to relieve his bladder nice and early. Odor remover; try bicarbonate soda nixed with lemon juice - make a paste and VERY GENTLY clean the boards. Once dry, sprinkle bicarbonate powder over the spot, if it gets between the boards, even better-but keep it up; they don't really like the tickle it gives their noses, plus it is a good doedoriser.

Well, if the dog's nails are not trimmed well, they could get a bit scratchy. But there are alternatives: 1. Take the dog on walks a lot (sidewalk) and the cement will wear down the claws. In addition to this, clip the nails often, and you can help prevent the scratches! 2. Get the nails removed. This is not what I would do but it is an option. 3. The link that the first person said is also an option, but I do not know the quality or the comfort that this product would give the dog. Good Luck, and I hope you get a doggie! :)

Hi Jpv, He is marking his territory because you have just move into a new house. He has to get use to the new place, before he will stop peeing on you hardwood floor. If you see him looking uncomfortable take him outside to do his business. The best thing you can use on the hardwood floor is LEMON OIL. It will kill the smell and keep your woodfloor looking new. To the brand of lemon oil that HomeDepot has.It work's great.

Start with the paper again, and move it a little at a time until he makes messes where you want. In case he has an accident in the right spot, praise him and give him some reward.
