It's for the living rooms' feature wall where there is a laminate wall. The walls are a neutral colour and I will get a new chesterfield.

Wow.... chesterfield.... haven't heard that word in a while.

It really depends on the type of look you are going for. If you are getting a modern style sofa, you need a modern window treatment. Verticals are becoming less flatteing a look, many people are moving back to horizontal shades or fan shades that allow for privacy, and can be oppened fully for maximum light.

A more classic sofa or antique look will go well with a more homey feeling decor. Drapes have a more traditional feel to them. But it depends in the style of drape. Shears or Puffy Ballon Vallances are better left in the past. A clean, sharp looking drape can be modern but it depends on the fabric and style.

Practical consideration include pets, allergies, and maintenance.
Fabric Draperies can collect dust and allergens, and may need to be dry-cleaned or steam cleaned. Pets can sometimes destroy drapery. Blinds are usually less expensive overall, and are easier to clean if pvc or wood.

If you have hardwood floors, I would consider a wood horizonal blind with a decorative curtain rod and two drapery pannels (one on either side of the window) in a contrasting colour that matches your room accents (ie. If you have a chocolate brown couch and baby blue accents like pillows and decor)

verticals are kind of dated 90s modern -- i would go with drapes. drapes block out more light too.

Neither. A very small inconspicuous window treatment. Let the sun shine in.
