Consider the following cameras
1. Sony DSC H5 (7.2MP,12x Optical Zoom)
2. Sony DSC H2 (6MP,12x Optical Zoom)
3. Sony DSC H1(5MP,12x Optical Zoom)
4. Canon S2 IS (5MP,12x Optical Zoom)
5. Canon S3 IS (6MP,12x Optical Zoom)
6. Lumix DMC-FZ7K (6MP,12x Optical Zoom)
7.Nikon Coolpix S10 (6MP,10x Optical Zoom)

All these cameras are coming under $400(Except DSC-H5). In my opinion, go for Canon S3 IS. It has more features than others and it is the best in Camera World

I bought a Sony DSC-7 on Ebay for under $250.00. New in the box. Has 7.2 MP, comes with a mini usb cable and all software. Takes fantastic photos and movies as well. Cyber Shot with 3x zoom. Geart camera for the money. Small size and easy to use with a lot of professional features.

Go for the canon SD700 it's a best in class point in shoot.

- really easy to use, and very fast
- has a large lcd
- anti jitter and takes great pictures

You can get one really cheap right now, an all time low for $250.
